C1 Pro pauses while editing.

I'm using C1 Pro 3.7 on a Win XP machine with 2GB memory. It has started to randomly pause ( display hourglass icon and not make any screen updates) for 30 seconds >> 1 minute while I am editing files. This directory contains 700 plus images, not that many for a larger event.
I have cleaned out the preview cashe of all older preview and work files.
This is a new and annoying behavior I have never experienced before. Any suggestions on what I may have done to produce this strange behavior.

  Mark,
  
  First thoughts that come to mind are where are the locations for the RAWs and for the Preview Cache?
  
  If other than local drive, be sure full read&write permissions are set
  and make sure that no program such as an anti-virus is involved here.
  When editing, the .C1w (Work or Thumbnail files) are updated or data is written too. This should be efficient, but we have seen slow down if set to server or other location than Local C:.

  All work and thumbnail files are on the local drive C:. Also RAW files.
  I do have a A/V program running but nothing has changed. I will try shutting it down and see if that has any impact.
