Although I do not have an Leica M8.2 but the initial M8, I do believe the raw format is not changed for a single bit (no problems with M8). Have you used CO4 in the past for your M8.2 files?
Try with a M8.2 DNG file that has absolutely not been touched by either Aperture or Lightroom, since Lightroom is known for writing into a DNG which might make it for CO4 impossible to open the file.

It worked before upgrading to Snow Leopard and 4.8.3.
CO can process files from a card reader but does not recognise the attached camera.

It had not understood your first post properly. It is the camera connectivity, required for downloading images, that is not working under Snow Leopard (from CO 4.8.3). You could test whether you can connect with Image Capture program. I might try this myself later this week (just curious, having Snow Leopard only running for tests currently).

My Leica M8.2 is recognised by Aperture and Lightroom for importing, but not by Capture One. Has anyone any experience of this? Is there a fix?

I am using Leica M8 not M8.2. I don't have any problem with Capture One 4.8.3.
But I don't use Lightroom and Aperture.

I used to have problem with last job. I run Leica Digital Capture on Mac Tiger and Capture One old version 4.0
Somehow somefiles may corrupted. I run Capture One Pro 4.8.x on Leopard to view and dveloped and got many crash after a few files develop.

I really hope Capture One next version will support tethering with M8 and M9.
