DNG from Leica X1 thumbnail problem

Files imported from a Leica X1 DNG do not seem to create thumbnails.

I'm using mac 10.4.6

From the Leica forum I learned of a workaround... to reprocess the DNG file with Adobe DNG converter and then delete the original one... this is fine for now but is not for long term.

anyone know if this is just because it is a new camera or what?

    It's hard to pin down when exactly Apple updated the Digital Camera RAW to support the X1 but from the most recent update it seems it is supported in Mac 10.6.4.

    I am using OS X 10.6.4 and the thumbnails for the Leica X1 DNG files appear fine in Mac Finder (and in Photoshop Bridge CS4) but they do not appear in Media Expression.

    One forum member suggested running the DNG file through Adobe DNG converter and that actually worked but it not a useful long term solution.

    I know that Nikon NEF files sometimes have problems when new cameras are introduced due to some changes they make in the camera coding in the file headers, so I'm hoping there is some easier solution than reprocessing all files?

    I'm asking this question in the adobe DNG forum as well, but my thoughts are that this may be something in Media Expression since the thumbnails display in all other apps. One person in the Leica forum stated that a new codec was available for windows which fixed the problem but there seems to be no such animal for macs.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi Drew-

    I can verify that 10.6.4 does support the X1. In finder you can view thumbnails and quickview shows full screen previews of the X1 DNG files. Doesn't this mean that EM should also?

    Do you recommend uninstalling and reinstalling EM? or anything else?

    Yes, this suggests that EM2 should support the DNG files. If not, then the first thing to check is that your version of EM2 is up to date by running the "Check for Updates". If it is up to date, an uninstall and reinstall should do the trick.

    Thanks. Running the update said I was up to date, so I went ahead and uninstalled and reinstalled with a new copy from your web site.

    This did not fix the problem. OS X renders the DNG thumbnail from X1s but EM2 does not.

    Any other step to take?
