"Could not save" error
I was great with 3.7 automatically creating a folder in the original RAW file location to save the processed image.
I always open in Photoshop. Now in 4.0 I browse to the location where the file will ultimately be saved. I work on it in Photoshop, but when I try to save it won't let me most of the time giving me an error saying that the file is being used elsewhere. Sometimes I can save, and sometimes I can't......usually can't.
Help!

A few questions to get a better idea of the problem:
1. Could you be more specific to the folder location you let CO4 save the image? (the output folder)
2. Do you use CO4 to view the processed images?
3. If you cannot save the file in PS, and assuming CO4 is still running, does it help when you close CO4, wait a few seconds, and try to save the file in PS again (this is to determine whether CO4 has a file handle open to the file)
4. If the save error occurs, are you able to save the file with a different file name in the same folder, using Save As in PS?0 -
Each of my clients has their own folder with multiple folders inside of that.
The first folder is a folder for my CR2 raw images. Many times multiple CR2 folders for different sessions of the same client.
Then I have a folder of small jpg's for proofing. And another folder of finished and properly sized jpgs for final prints.
But I keep another folder of full sized, finished images. If I need to reuse an image for another print size, this is where I go.
Since Phase One changed things I now need to browse to the new folder each time. To try to make it easier I browse to that folder in C1 so that when I am done with it in Photoshop all I need to do is save it without browsing again.
In 3.7 it would automatically create a folder in the original CR2 folder. When I'm done in Photoshop I would just have to browse over a folder or two to save it where I want it.
I'm trying to make this as easy as possible, but Phase One doesn't seem to be making it easy.0 -
I don't use 4.0 to view the processed jpg's. When I process the file it opens in Photoshop. I work on the image, and then I try to save it in the same folder as it processed it to. That's where the problem is.
It does seem to not happen when C1 is closed.
Sometimes I keep trying, and it finally saves. I don't know what makes it different so that it can save where it couldn't a minute or two earlier with no changes made by me in C1.0 -
And yes I can save it as a different file name.
Again, I was perfectly fine with the option Phase One provided in 3.7. Why was this OPTION taken away?
I don't want to have to browse all over my hard drives every time to save it where I want it.0 -
I just did another file with nothing done differently, and this one saved without problem. The problem usually happens, but it isn't 100% consistent. 0 -

I Do know of a saving error "Cannot save as xxxx.tif because of a program error " although it does not indicate file being used elsewhere. It was related to an updated version of Photoshop 10.01 and Vista, The workaround was to go back to 10.0. . It was reported as a bug.
Your problem may relate to this or not. However please create a support case anyway and give all pertinent details, so we can investigate . http://www.phaseone.com/HOME/Content/Su ... 20-%20Main

Hi,
I get the same error from Paint Shop Pro X2 if I leave C1 4 open after processing a file. I see the error more if I generate a tif to the desktop and open with Paint Shop Pro X2 to modify and then I'm not allowed to save until I close C1 4.
Thanks,

That is basically the error I get. I am on XP, not Vista.
I was going to say that the problem doesn't happen with 3.7, but I don't know that. 3.7 gives me the ability to automatically create a process folder. With 4.0 that option was taken away from me, so I'm trying to find the quickest way to work with my files without spending all day browsing for the save folder.0 -
Same here. I am on Windows XP Pro SP2 and running Photoshop CS3 with CaptureOne 4.0.
I concur with the OP's troubles--as long as C1 4 is left open, any TIFs that I process and edit immediately once it opened up in CS3 can not be saved properly without that error dialogue showing up on the screen.
To remedy this problem, the solution is to process your TIF to a directory, close C1 4 and work on the file.
This is kind of annoying since I'd like to leave my RAW software open so that if I need to I can go back and process other files for compositing purposes and what not.0 -
I'm wondering if C1 is perhaps not closing file handles for its developed files? Can you rename the TIFs if C1 is still open? I think renaming a file in use brings up a little window saying another program is currently using a file. Or, I know WinZip will warn you if you're compressing a file which it thinks is currently being written to (because that means its contents may change mid-zipping). 0 -

I confirm that closing C1 4.01 makes this annoying bug go away allowing me to process f.x. 45 files in a batch. Opening C1 again during the batch makes the "Could not save..." message pop up again.

I reported this problem some time ago. I reverted to PS CS3 v10 but, in fact, the problem still occurred. In view of the fact that not many people seem to have reported this bug, it would appear that most people do not use this workflow. Interesting that it also happens with XP as well as Vista. I was hoping that the latest release would cure this problem but it would seem not! 0 -
I reported this problem to P1 support several weeks ago. Their suggestion/solution was to not use underscores or spaces in the file name, which is, of course, ridiculous and doesn't make any difference.
I'm using PS CS2 and XP. Never had a problem before CO 4, and yet somehow P1 support doesn't think it has anything to do with their software.
I'm like the other users here, I just close CO4 and work around it. It won't be too long before I tire of having to work around software that used to work very well and I'll switch to something else. So sad.0 -
i reported this problem back in the public beta and never got a response.
We have our clients on a folder on a networked drive, each one had a raw, proofs, and retouched folder under their name. I save the processed files out as tiffs in the retouched folder. Although it occurs as well when i do the same on the local machine
I do not use CO4 to view the images
It will save the file once i close CO4
I have tried save as a different file name, different location, different format in PS and none of them will work.
using CS3, win xp. have not tried the work around posted here for vista (will try when back in office on monday and update)0
