From C1 4 LE to C1 5 LE : nothing new. Why pay for it ?
I have paid 69 euros + TVA for C1 5 LE and I found absolutely nothing new.
I have paid for nothing !

Welcome to the forum, and sorry to hear you missed the 30-day trial period. To give you a quick start in discovering changes of CO5 over CO4 (std, not Pro):
• Local Copy and Apply
• Viewer Margin and Proof Margin
• Edit Keyword and IPTC Metadata
• Windows 7 / OS X Snow Leopard support
• Improved Progress Indication
• Long Exposure Slider in noise reduction
• Preview Image Size Preference (600-2400 px, default 1000)
• Improved Tools and Tool tabs (like improvements to copy/apply adjustments; auto-expand tools)
• JPEG QuickProof output * (currently Mac only, hopefully for Win soon)
• Support for new cameras
• Focus Tool0 -
Sorry, but I can't call that a major improvement.
It's not 69 euros value !0 -

Who said it was a major improvement? What these improvements are worth to you is your decision. So, why did you buy it anyway? Were you forced? Missed the trial period?0 -

As newbie in CO 5 (std, not pro) I need help: What's the difference between Focus Tool in CO 5 and the Detail Tool of CO 4 (4.8.31). Is there no difference or have I missed something?0 -

The Focus Tool is a new tool on the Details tool tab.0 -

The problem was in CO 5.0.1 standard version the focus tool is not available.
Now I found the solution here:[quote="michel421" wrote:
Version 5.01 is supposed to bring the focus tool in the standard version. I still can't get it to work however. Has someone else succeeded?
kind regards, Michel
Edit:
Deactivating and reactivating resolved this. The focustool is available now (win7 64bit).
Same for Win XP SP3. Thank you. 😉
Perhaps PhaseOne could give users of CO 5.0.1 (standard version) a short notice how they can enable focus tool?0 -

Why didn't you trial the new version first?
For what its worth initially I was going to stick with 4.8 as (after downloading and having a couple of hours playing with it in trial mode) I couldn't see anything initially worth upgrading for. However, i've since rather impulsively bought a Canon 7D so needed to upgrade because v4 doesn't support RAW from that camera.0 -
good to know that the 7D isn't supported with 4.8.3 looks like ill be upgrading as well.. 0 -

The full version number and the fact that Phase One's charging for it would ideally be an indicator..0 -
Easy Fellas,
A lot of architectural changes went into this new software, the most apparent change in this regard is full support in 64 Bit environments (Snow Leopard, Windows 7, Vista 64 bit). If you're not using one of those platforms and feel like being thrifty then by all means continue to use Capture One 4, no one is forcing you (unless of course you bought a Camera System released After C1 5's debut, sorry 7D guys). But rest assured the upgrade is no "slight" improvement on Capture One 4, it's substantial enough to justify a new version number and a small fee for those that would like to take advantage of it. What you may see as "Nothing New" may be a quite different perspective when viewed by others.
The trial period is there to ensure you are making the right decision for you.0 -
I appreciate that Phase One has continued to provide a more-economical alternative to the high-end products available. It is probably wise from a marketing standpoint that you have decided to extend the differentiation between the standard and PRO products.
Where I think you have made a mistake is the lack of information available (other than what is stated above) regarding the differences between the standard versions 4 and 5. I'd like to know in what ways the new version has a higher IQ processing engine, is at least as stable, and any measured speed of processing improvements, etc. I am likely to upgrade (possibly even to PRO), but the lack of detail has resulted in hesitating on even downloading the trial. Most likely, many others feel the same way. We've seen relatively little chatter on the major forums.
All of this comes from someone who really appreciates and advocates for the quality of your product in both versions 3 and 4.0 -
Just to make it clear, I am a long time user of CO (not pro version).
I tested CO5 and I have no clue what this version is supposed to do in a "major upgrade" fashion. The focus tool...what is this supposed to do? There isn't even a clear explanation of it in the help file, unless I am missing something.
All the real goodies are in the PRO version, which I have no use for, because I don't care for the tethered shooting support. Those extra $$$ would be a total waste.
For example, multi monitor support is available in the PRO version only. C'mon, give me a break!
I ran CO 4.8 on a Vista64 for 15 months and now on Vista7 64 bit for about 2 months with zero issues. CO5, as mentioned above, has now full support for those. This is something NEW? You gotta be kidding me. CO5 does not even come in 64 bit...
I am at a point where I am seriously considering LightRoom. Their upgrade price is the same as for CO. However, between LR2.6 and the new LR3 is a true major leap. True 64 bit support is just one of about 2 dozens new features...
Sorry, I had to vent off my frustration....

I too used C1 since version 3.x, lived thru the problems of 4.x.
Was not the Local Copy and Apply a feature of 3.x and taken away in 4.x? Now it's back and it's a new feature we need to pay for?
Along with the keyboard shortcuts, taken away in 4.x and returned in v5.
QuickProof available in 3.x taken away in 4.x now back in 5 (only on Mac) and thats a new feature to pay for?
The list of new features posted for the C1 5 std is a non starter, should have been a free dot update.0 -
Before I paid, I have installed the trial version, but then, it's the full version you are using, and yes, there are some improvements !
It's only when you have paid for the limited version that you can SEE what you paid for, and it's too late.
I am a Lightroom user also, and I agree with the opinion that Lightroom 3 IS a major improvement over Lightroom 2.
I have used Capture One for many years, but now I have uninstalled it.0 -

True. It will, however, increase the disapointment... ☹️

Would prevent one I would say, in case you are not satisfied you don't spent money you'll regret later.0 -
I updated to 5.01 standard with no charge this weekend. I didn't see anything new of value to me. The only possible reason I may have paid if I had to was for Canon S90 support.
I have yet to try the long exposure slider, maybe that has some value to me. v.3.7 standard used to have auto hot pixel detection and removal. I wonder if this is similar.
I did try the demo to ensure it actually worked before activating. It was not until the third time I tried the demo it till I realized I could choose between pro vs. standard demo. I should have tried the selection box sooner.0
