Memory card images not "found" in CO

I shot a job Monday and have 164 NEF files on a XQD card. I know that the files are there because I can see them using Windows Explorer and move them to a hard drive. However CO v8.2 gives a message No Items Match Your Search when I try to import them from the card using that software. I usually import using Photo Mechanic. Using that program I get the same message that No Items Match Your Search. Imports last week had no problems.

I am using Windows 7 64-bit.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

  What happens if you use Windows to move the cards to the HDD and then import from there?

  I tried that. The results are the same. I get the not found items when I try to open them in CO 8.

  What sort of NEF files from which Nikon camera? Is the camera model/NEF type supported?
  
  Have you successfully read files from the same card and camera previously?
  
  Has anything else been done to the files - use of Nikon software for example to update EXIF or other information - whilst they have been on the card?
