CO 8.0 stability on Mavericks
Compared to 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, (don't even mention 4.0) 8.0 runs pretty smoothly, in my opinion.
Other users who already installed and worked on the new 8.0 please leave your feedback on your own experiences.
Problem free, or not?
Please do mention your hardware (computer, file type and camera, if tethered).

After some initial lags (session), perhaps because I say upgrade previews it works very well. 0 -

Correct, CO8 regenerates previews because it creates an additional file (.cot extension) for the thumbnail. You can find this in the ../Cache/Thumbnails folder. This is one of the features that helps improving on speed in CO8.0 -
I had crashes in 7.2.3 whenever I created a new project or group within the existing (referenced) catalog under OSX 10.9.4 with my recent MBP late 2013. Support suggested to go back to 7.2.2 since 7.2.3 was not compatible with this type of MBP.
Now, with CO 8 this works very fine. Also OpenCL is activated and works well. No crashes so far.0 -
After more than 10 hours of intensive testing zero crashes so far. Currently I would say the most stable release since v3.
Kind regards,

Macbook Pro 2.7GHz i7, 16GB RAM, SSD, Mavericks 10.9.4
Running sweet so far. Did a quick benchmark in processing speed compared to C7, and 30x D800 files processed 6s quicker than C7 (6 min 28 secs vs 6 min 22 secs in C8), so no noticeable difference really. Interface feels a lot quicker, getting used to the cleaner look!
BTW OpenCL on AUTO on both Display and Processing.0 -
Same problem with 723. Same feed back. I just had 14 days fun with 722, when troubles starts with 723.
After 2 months and some day I need to buy again an update to V8. Promotional discount that called the price of v7, what is so promotional about the stability. I will wait for release 8.1.x, but still consider to switch to another product.0 -

Why do I have go deep in the dungeons of OSX to solve an issue ?0 -

The conversation you quoted is not about solving an issue but confirming that CO8 is faster after initial one-time preview regeneration. I think you have a different issue which is better discussed in a separate thread to prevent confusion.0 -
After 5 years of heavy LR use (over 400k images in one catalog) without a single crash that I can remember, I started using C1 full time 3 months ago. I get at least 1 crash a day, sometimes a dozen or more and this hasn't changed in C1 8. I'm sure the C1 team is getting tired of all of my crash reports, and I only send about 80% of them because there are times I'm in places without access to the internet.
I haven't been able to use catalogs because they are so slow and crashy so I have been using sessions. I'm not exactly happy with sessions for my personal walk around shooting and family photos, but I'm using them.
If the converted RAW files weren't absolutely heads and shoulders above LR, I wouldn't be putting up with the crashiness. But I'm only a few straws away from breaking the camels' back and returning to LR.
Anyone have any ideas on how to make this application more stable?

Two suggestions. First, in case you have not already done so, contact Phase One support. The amount of crashes you experience are out of band. Second, have you experimented with OpenCL > Never for both display and processing in the Preferences?0 -
2 Hangs - importing from disk and from Lightroom.
3 crashes working with Layers.
MacBook pro 2.7ghz i7. 16GB of RAM. OpenCL on.0 -
Works really well on my MacBook Pro Retina (late 2012) with 16GB RAM and 2.7GhZ i7 which made me upgrade to 8 on my MacPro (late 2010) with 24GB and 3.33GhZ 6core processor and on that machine v 8.0 hangs all the time creating new catalogs or sessions. I created a support ticket - let's see what they find.

I have done so, haven't heard back yet. And I've sent so many crash reports that I'm surprised they haven't contacted me based on that alone 😜
I have switched OpenCL to "Never", per your suggestion, and it's been much more stable since. Thank you. I've only seen 2 crashes since doing so (5 days ago). Huge improvement. I do wish they would improve the OpenCL code so I can get that speed advantage back, especially on the new Mac Pro.0 -

No case from you aside from the one on August 12th regarding a Lightroom catalog import taking a long time. ☹️0 -
Macbook pro Retina 15" i7 2.3GHZ, 16GB RAM, Nvidia 2GB, 512SSD.
C1 8 and 8.0.1 keep getting very very slow (10sec to refresh) as soon as I use layers and crashes very often.
I opened a case that it still ongoing ☹️
I have bought C1 6 and 7 and was hoping to move to C8 instead of Lightroom but so far Lightroom wins for its stability!0
