"Edit" tag on all my photos
Hi everyone,
Just upgraded from version 8 to version 9 this morning. Did this happen to you too : most of my photos now have this "edit" tag (on the bottom right of the preview, in the browser mode) - note that I use a catalog. This is very annoying, as I always look at this tag to see whether I did edit the photo or not. Now I have to go on all my photos and "ALT-R" to remove the tag.
I have a backup so I can still go back to the previous version of my catalog. I cannot imagine myself going through my thousands of photos to "reset" their status.
Any idea of what happened ? Is this normal (and if so, what is the meaning), or is this a bug ?
Thanks to all

I guess I am the only one having this problem ? ...
I went back to a backup version of my catalog, opened it with C1P 8 and those "edit" tags are not there. So this is really an issue with C1P 9 (or with the conversion of the catalog). I guess I will contact the support, but I wanted to know if that happened to anyone else.0 -
Hi again,
In order to find out what is happening, I had the idea to right-click on the photo, select "Copy Adjustments" and check the Adjustments Tool Tab. And in fact yes, there is an adjustment made: Composition -> Rotation. Thing is, it happens on photos for which no rotation is needed (landscape, and I was holding my camera normally). And as I wrote in my previous post, this adjustment does not appear in C1P 8.
I assume this is a bug ??0 -
Is there actually a rotation applied? E.G. horizon levelled or something similar? What does the Rotation and Flip tool tell you?
I assume you just opened the V8 catalog in V9. Were you offered any options for updating to the new engine at that time? Something that might have introduced further processing steps?
If the rotations exist, are not expected and are not needed, I guess you could try selecting all of the images and resetting THAT TOOL. Then see what happens. Try it on a small group first of course! Be sure you have the "Edit all selected variants" setting active in order ot process all the selected images/variants at the same time.
HTH.

Rotation & Flip are set to 0. Which is correct since I did not edit those photos.I assume you just opened the V8 catalog in V9. Were you offered any options for updating to the new engine at that time? Something that might have introduced further processing steps?
You are right, I just opened a V8 catalog in V9. No option were offered, just a window telling me that I needed to update. If the rotations exist, are not expected and are not needed, I guess you could try selecting all of the images and resetting THAT TOOL. It does work indeed: I selected a few photos, reset the "Rotation & Flip" tool and the edit tag got removed. It is good but... I am quite reluctant to revisit my entire library to be honest. I cannot just reset that tool for all the photos, as some of them required rotation and flip 😊
Thanks for answering and trying to help, Grant. Really appreciate! It looks like a bug though, so I will open a case. I wanted to create a topic in this forum to see if I was the only one having the problem, and so far it looks like it. I will leave a reply here once I get the feedback from PhaseOne.
Edit: case 206270 created.0 -
PhaseOne replied that they would look into it and report the bug if need be.
Ok... well... doesn't sound too promising. By the way, I am running C1P on a MacMini, Yosemite 10.10.5. My camera is a Nikon D600.
Seems no one is having this issue, guess I can wait for some time before support takes a hard look at this 😕0 -

I think most people would probably expect to see an edit tag on an image unless it was part of a new set of images. Not many would leave a RAW file completely unedited, long term, if they were keeping it. However I do appreciate that conversion of an existing catalog where many images are still "in progress" an as yet untouched could be somewhat frustrating. Especially for a non-existent rotation!
That said the for some images (by no means all) the rendering difference between the V8 engine and the V9 engine can be quite significant form what I have seen of the new processing engine. For other images there seems to be no difference at all. I guess it depends on which tools are in play. Would deployment of the edited flag on conversion be appropriate in that situation? Maybe although I expect opinion would be polarised.

Hi Grant,
I for one keep quite a few RAWs unedited, long term 😊 But as you said, it is frustrating to see this edit tag on untouched photos...
Anyway, good news (at least for me), PhaseOne could reproduce the bug and have logged it. Hopefully it will be solved in the next release.0 -
Hi all,
Installed 9.0.1, tried with a clean copy of my catalog v8 (which then had to be converted to v9 when opening C1P9), and still same issue. No fix for me yet.
I have only a few days left for the trial period, and this means certainly that I will not be able to try the next version of C1P9 when it comes out. Nice ... (well PhaseOne team might be kind enough to let me try again when time comes, I'll see)0 -

I doubt they would have had time to do anything between your report and the "freeze" date for the release.
With V8 the trial option was "reset" for each major point release. An excellent idea since it gives people an opportunity to test major updates without potentially compromising their day to day workflow. Assuming the same thing happens with V9 you would get a chance to re-trial at that point.
That said there is no harm in asking for an option to retest at the point that you know the problem has been addressed.

Ugh, just noticed this "Composition / Rotation" issue on a whole collection of mine and I'm pretty certain the last time I looked at it that wasn't there. I have some 3000 images in that collection and while I started editing at the beginning, I did skip ahead to several spots and did pre-edits to see what I got in a certain range of images. I had to be very careful not to reset anything I had already edited. Very frustrating.
Would be great if others could chime in that have experienced this issue, so that a proper support case can be filed with some more detail. I have no idea how this happened, I just returned to this collection after a while to continue editing and that edit tag was on all images.
On v9.1.1 btw, but that issue seems to have been existing for a while apparently...0 -
I have seen the rotation problem as well, but that was a while ago, most likely before 9.1.1. Nowadays I no longer have that issue. That was on Fuji raw files (see signature for details).

I reported the same problem in March: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=22448
I found that the "rotation" box (or some such) was checked on "apply adjustments on import." I had never checked this box, but I unchecked it, and I don't get the "edited" badge on all my images now.0 -
I'm seeing this on all Variants created by importing Sony a900 RAW files into a test Catalog. No adjustments are being applied at import. I have not yet taken the time to trouble-shoot. 0
