Straighten tool
(New to C1, 8.3.)
When using the Straighten tool, two things happen to my image which I think I understand; but would like to make sure of, please:
Does this behaviour correspond to what is left/visible and has to be cropped as the maximum displayable area of an image as it is changed by rotation/straightening?
TIA!
When using the Straighten tool, two things happen to my image which I think I understand; but would like to make sure of, please:
- • inside a brighter, more central - and non-rotated - square the image is (auto-)cropped
• outside this there is a dimmer, rotated 'version' (?) of the image
Does this behaviour correspond to what is left/visible and has to be cropped as the maximum displayable area of an image as it is changed by rotation/straightening?
TIA!

Yes.
The crop amount will also take into account any specific crop ratios you have set in the currently active Output Recipe if you have one. Very useful once you have got the hang of it.

I have no Output Recipe; but I have understood the basic principle properly: that it can't straighten without some cropping?0 -

If you rotate, the rotated image still fits within a rectangle, so some bits must therefore be cut off.

You could set the preference to crop outside the image area. This would retain the full image size (or dimensions according to the settings in a Process) but leave you with some areas with no image content. However since this would normally be used when exporting the image to another application - Photoshop for example - with a view for further editing and perhaps cloning the missing areas back into the image it's quite valid.
Normally it's not something you would attempt to do with Capture One so the default is to crop inside the image area.
HTH.
