Capture One Pro Inconveniences?
I'm working with the trial of CO9 now as I decide whether to upgrade from CO8. And, as has been discussed elsewhere, it has a number of bugs and missing features. But I'm thinking about the inconveniences; the things that may be more of a design decision than a missing feature. But do others find them to be inconvenient? If so, maybe they should be feature requests?
What do you guys do to handle these?
1) On import, you cannot create an album, you must chose from exiting albums.
2) If you don't have an album selected, when you start an import, you can't even select among the albums that do exist.
3) There are no "import presets" that collect together all the import options (except for perhaps the target album) and let you switch en mass.
4) Import Metadata presets are under the Adjustments preset drop down instead of in the Metadata section.
5) Deleting an image from the hard drive and the catalog can be complicated and confusing, and depends on where the image is stored (managed or referenced).
6) There are no "print presets" that collect together all the print options. So, for example, I'd like a preset for "Epson 3880 printing on Epson Exhibition Fiber with the ColorMunki printer profile as an 8x10 on letter size paper."

Hi, Bob, as mentioned in other thread for myself C1 is worth of money only for RAW beast processing power, and I do not use a lot it for other stuff.
So before import I always create album where to import as it is just 1 single click, and of course select it before import.
Handling of files stored outside catalog may be confusing, so I store them in catalog, where needed, and I reference only keepers on my NAS.
I never print from C1, as this is usually by print agencies and TIFFs from C1 are perfect for them.
So yes there are limitation, but the look of images processed by C1 is much nicer then anything else 😄0 -

Bob, this may not be what you want to hear, however.
What I have found is that printing from C1 doesn't give that much control. Its fine for printing contact sheets and such.
Printing from LR is far easier but I wasted a lot of paper.because it would "forget" settings. I use a 7900 and it was wasting three ft of paper at at time.
I ended up buying Mirage Print, and its really the best thing I ever done.
Print Tao is another of many options, but having a printing app is really the way to go. Much less pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth.0 -
Hello Bob,
coming from Aperture, I also "struggle" with some of the inconveniences of Capture One.
I personally would like to see point 1, 2 and 5 solved.
Point 5 for me has the highest priority.
I would highly appreciate it if PhaseOne could make a checkbox:
"Delete image from disk when deleting from folder?"
under Preferences > General in a next update (v9.0.1?) of Capture One 9.
Best regards,

Hope, I found the according tools in my german translation but a real good feature in c1 is user interface customization.
right click on the top tool tab and add anything to any tool.[quote="Andriy.Okhrimets" wrote:
Why not get rid of the stuff that's just not working.

Yes twelve finger joe, the customization possibilities are a real strength. Not only the tool tabs and tools, also the user presets, the customizable keyboard shortcuts, choice of C1 engine (version) per image, and did you know you can drag the tools so they are floating windows?
But regarding Import Metadata presets, Bob meant in the import window I think.
And I am sure P1 gets rid of stuff which is not working step by step, and introduce new features and camera support (even for free in minor updates, occured with version 8.i), but surely they have to have priorities in their backlog which is totally normal in software development, as resources are not endless...
I really recommend the webinar recordings, the "professors" blog, blogs from C1 ambassadors (go google!) and the online help often is also helpful, and play around and see what's possbile rather than what's not possible. I guess you'll be astonished (although I have to admit I don't know nothing about aperture other than that it is a dead horse:-)
cheers
