Sorry for the dumb question, but can't your retoucher open the files with C1?

Maybe it is an issue of file format. The P45+ can store in IIQ small and large. In addition, when capturing with CO4.x, you can set IIQ or TIF as extension. Have no experience myself, but I can imaging both parameters can affect whether a ACR (i.e. CS3) can process the files.
Last but not least, your retoucher should check the version of his ACR plug-in in CS3. It should be at least 4.2 to support the P45+ or later IIRC.

Because he's not that fond of it & prefers to use adobe.

Try changing the files so they end with .TIF
Then make sure you have the latest Camera RAW plugin for CS3 and you can process the
files in ACR. Note you'll have to at at least 3/4 of a stop on the Exp slider to get an acceptable exposure. This is just the beginning of your adventure. 😄

Same problem here, if I shoot in C1 3 the files open fine but shooting in C1 4 no go, all that opens with ACR is the small preview; .TIF makes no difference.

I just tried it; using CS3 and a file shot with a P45+, tethered. I changed the file extension to .TIF from .IIQ and it opens in photoshop; the RAW Dialog. Whew. Thanks for that, mate.
