Crash, Crash, Crash
Media Pro has become unusable. My current image archive contains almost 40,000 images. After I open the catalog & it begins to update & import the newest files, it locks up & I have to force quit. It asks if I want to send a crash report to Phase One. Yes. Box opens saying it cannot find the crash report. I totally deleted that catalog, opened the program, opened a new blank catalog, import all the files, (takes hours..) then it works fine. Once. Quit the program, reopen that catalog & it locks up again. Now, newer, smaller catalogs are behaving exactly the same. When it tries to add the newest files to the catalog, it locks up. Force quit. No crash report to send to Phase One.
OSX.6.8. MacPro.
Is this EVER going to be a stable usable piece of software? Lightroom is making strides toward replicating what this can do, & it appears that there's a bit more dedication on the part of Adobe fixing issues & updating.

Version 1.0.1.50536 0 -
I've experienced many problems with MP1 v.1.0.1.50400 since the install last week. One expects glitches now and again; but P1 has yet to respond to my tech support request - I find this maddening. At present the program is unusable. Tiffs aren't rendering with Phase One, but dngs will; if I switch to the Windows render engine the tiffs do but I lose all the dngs - which is the archive format for most of our files. We're still working with Windows XP; the note from Ulf on an update to solve these issues mentions a release in June; if the current release is it then I'm just not seeing progress. Right now I'm also thinking LR. 0 -
Hi Don,
In general, I find when using a image catalogue software, it makes more sense to make smaller catalogues vs a few large ones. So much quicker and really easier to manage.
I too cannot see TIF files, nor my InDesign, or PSD (I downloaded and am using the Ardfry codec). I'm on Windows 7. I have selected to go ahaead and make previews of files larger than 100MB. No difference. In fact, most of my files are at least 50MB to start(digibacks, hello), and often are 500 to 1gb in TIF or PSD. Any other format I should consider?
I see MPro being the top of many browser/catalogue apps, but I surely need to see PSD and TIF files. One of the other reasons I got into wanting Media Pro was the other file types like PDF, InDesign, etc. So far I end up closing MPro due to the TIF not showing, and use an alternate app. I select the Media view of the TIF and it says "Rendering disabled". So I try and rebuild the image with no luck.
I watched almost all the video tutorials and none really cover the file type on how to disable or enable any(If there is such a feature to control), even though one video is titled file types, it doesn't say where one can enable or disable a certain file type should be displayed or not.
In the video tutorials, Peter on the MAC lists all kinds of file types. I need to see a few of those.
Is MPro geared better for the MAC OS? Oddly enough I would think it would be smoother on a Windows platform.
Waiting for the Updating records as catalogue builds, I see the new catalogue of a different folder sees TIF and PDF (with darn good color). No PSD yet.
31 of 294 and still chugging along. I rather wait and have files display correct than a sloppy quick mess.
Having said that: When I select Adobe Acrobat doc in the File Type panel, I get .ai, PSD, indd, only 1 pdf, and a jpg show up on with icon, no thumbs. Under WIC PSD decoder I get TIF, PSD, Ai, indd icons show up. Under Indesign type, I see jpeg icon only show. Under Canon RAW I also see a PSD icon show. None with thumbnail image, just a generic icon.
And another thing I notice in the tutorial video...On the MAc, on the bottum of the window he has a "info" display showing # selected or total files and other info. Is this disabled or elsewhere on Windows?
Once there are updates and it's able to see all files, then I can try and see how the other functions work, such as making smaller files and how it places them into a new or selected folder with a text overlay or water mark, etc to email. But for now, I can't use it.0 -

Hmmm, i disagree with you on this. I find less catalog easier to manage (my opinion 😊 )

Did you test it on EM2 also?
I tried it (on EM2/Win7-64bit) and experienced no problems with Tif and/or PSD:

I will test it on MP1 to shortly

Different people have different needs.
If you have 12TB of image data, you plan to have 1 or 2 or 3 ?
I have started to catalogue, but so far only what I need, and already have 6.
I don't plan on making each too large.
I haven't tried it on EM2, just MPro.0 -
Crashed again; really don't know why except trying to do too much too quickly.
I can reopen the catalog, but only as a read only.
Then a resave.
Then redo what I was doing.
I am now up to a catalog "All Photos 8"
Other crashes don't always require a resave.0 -
Hi Jim,
I think you might have got it.."trying to do too much to fast"
I notice when that wheel on the right corner is "chugging away", or the info bar blinking and specially if I hear my drives r/write, I tend to wait and let things calm down, and then proceed...specially when I initiate a Update or Rebuild. Which I do a lot since I don't see all file types and have other issues(not that this helps create thumbs).
Jim, do you see all TIF, and all PSD, and all JPEG files, and if you select a specific file type is it the only file type that appears in the thumbnail view (all thumbnails showing the image?
I ask as you are on the same platform, and wondering if you are using a codec in specific. Perhaps you have installed or approached your setup differently.0 -

I had notice3d this some time ago. Patience is the key. This time, however, I was clicking too fast between thumb nails and media files on different images. UGH.[quote="Raffi3" wrote:

Yes to both. This has all been working well for me - as long as I rebuild the psd files first using the WIC as the preferred engine.
I use CO as my preferred media engine, switch to WIC for the PSD files, rebuild, then switch back. The PSD files stay visible.0 -
Hah! thats what I am experienceing now. In fact I notice if I let the codec FPViewer rebuild the icons in Explorer it kind of makes sure they get picked up and not fail when rebiulding. it took me a bit to realize I need to rebuild more than 1 at a time for it to work, as far as I was able to tell.
Thanks for your feedback. Now why didn't support suggest any of this to me? ☹️
Now I oddly cannot see the thumbnail in Explorer but when the file is selected it does show it perfectly in the larger preview. But not if I reight click and open a preview. odd. Do you see all the PDF's in MediaPro? (I often have pdf-x1a files)0 -

Actually, I don't use MP to catalog my pdf's.
Probably not a bad idea, as all my billing and quotes are sent out as pdfs. I just never thought of it, as my photography is a hobby I have kept separate from my consulting business.
I may give it a try in the next few days.0 -
Bah.. looks like this software is StILL no where near close to ready for purchase... While I feel bad for all of those that did pay this company for a product that is still half baked.. I do appreciate the reporting you do that convinces me to stay away until 2.0 comes out... so.. thx! 0 -
So funny,(in a sad way)
Even after trying IDimager, which is a bit smoother than MPro, (I like Mpro's somewhat "easy" to learn interface)...) I still revert back to ACDSeePro4 for getting the job done. It covers the BASICS!
The bottom line is ALL the imaging content needs to be seen visually. And ACDSee has managed that pretty well, and certainly better than MP and in ways better than IDimager. It doesn't fail to show the thumbnails, You don't have to "Sync" or update, rebuild all the time, and I hope in v5, they will get the networking ability up and ready instead of focusing on the developing abilities....which are just entertaining..BUT don't mistake the RAW for its VERY POWERFUL batch editing, which is ANOTHER main reason I go back.
In Mpro I see a View option, and a Edit option window, and Save (with no saved profile/preset to be seen again), and all the stuff here and there....
if you try ACDSee editor, it just blows either apps abilities, and function, ease of use, speed, non clunky feel...all in one place simple, "BAM get it done" with confidence. In Mpro, I had to rebuild a JPEG from Tif 5 times before it got the compression close to what i was looking for, but still had to revert back to ACDSee to get it done right.
Are the catalogs portable? not really, yet, I haven't needed this feature in DAM, and always think I will use it, but its been years.
I thought to blame Windows 7 on some of this, but I can't, as ACDSee manages to display thumbs faithfully regardless of codecs, all the thumbs, with a full screen view...SUPER fast...and for a funky name and somewhat non structured, or non "pro" featured app, it gets the job done on the BASIC level. If you can't get the basic foundation done. Whats the point of everything else?
I really hope to see Media Pro update to 2.0 ...run smooth. As I like it, I just have little faith when it doesn't sort, or things are missing, and I can't trust it. Things that I think should be simple and to work, some don't and (File type sort within a Folder , see other topic post).
The one thing any user that is used to an app has to remember...Once you have grown comfortable with a specifc app, other apps shortcomings, or hurdles will stumble that user, specially from a smooth running app that you have grown to like. The cataloging of MPro had won me over to purchase and switch at the begining...and now I will let it mature while I function using ACDsee0
