Bear in mind the subscription model was in part conceived as a solution for commercial user with a variable need for 'seats' thus allowing the number of licences to be adjusted to suit requirements. It is therefore logical that the right to use license would expire.

One has the option of a perpetual licence as an alternative.

If you prefer to use the subscription model, I would consider upgrading to a permanent license if/when you decide to not use Capture One in the future. I believe the upgrade fee is comparable to the annual license fee. This would allow you unlimited access to your existing library with no further expense since you would not be updating to newer versions of C1. N

I note that trial versions of C1 won't start when the trial period is over. I expect the subscriptions are the same.
I view the subscription as a transition between the trial and buying the full license.

Once you've finished the trial period and decide to keep on with C1, then the subscription is an economical choice to take you until you definitely decide to stick with C1 for a few years.

Once you've decided to use C1 permanently, its cheaper to pay for the license. If you decide to take the C1 upgrade at every new version (which is typically once a year), then the upgrade fee for previous license holders is still cheaper than the subscription model for a year.

If you don't upgrade C1, then eventually your old version of C1 won't work with Apple's latest OSX. It's hard to say how long that is, 2-4 years perhaps.

Then you have a choice of: Stop using C1, don't upgrade your OS (I'm still on OSX 10.12), upgrade C1. I will likely upgrade to C1 version 12, when it comes along.

The program will become deactivated, however your documents (sessions, catalogs, images, sidecar files, etc) will remain untouched.
