Capture One Pro 6.4.2 Slow and jerky
What I mean by slow and jerky is that you can select a tool or menu and nothing happens for a while and then it takes effect.
One thing that I noticed is that when you move a session window to uncover another session window it takes a long time for the previews to fill in. Also there a several windows that are listed in under the window menu that are not open. I can't remember when this started but with the upgrade to 6.4.1 or 6.4.2.
All the other applications including Aperture, photoshop seem to run just fine. I don't see anything in the system log other than the messages below that I am told are harmless.
6/22/12 9:30:24 AM [0x0-0xb60b6].com.phaseone.captureone[14157] NkDriverMacOSXEntry - GetDeviceList
6/22/12 9:30:24 AM [0x0-0xb60b6].com.phaseone.captureone[14157] NkDriverMacOSXEntry - result(0)
I have tried different workspaces and that does not seem to matter. It seems to do this with any of the sessions.
The system is running 10.7.4 with all the current updates. MacPro 2.66GHz 12 core with 64GB of memory. The application is on one drive and the data is on a Raid ONE configuration striped over 4 drives and I can get over 250GBs read speed.Write speed is a little less but very fast.
I was wondering if I should delete some preferences and/or reinstall Capture One Pro.

I think you should look into your RAID system. What you have described is textbook for a bottleneck in the data access. Be it a cache of your RAID, the Communication Protocol, an improperly setup RAID or just a quarky RAID system. There are many possibilities but I bet that if you take that session and put it on your Local drive the issue will be resolved.
As an additional note, other applications like Aperture and Photoshop are unrelated to Capture One. They have very different architectures (catalogs and large scratch spaces) that are not like Capture One by design. Evaluating the performance of these softwares against the performance of Capture One is like saying you have 3 cars in your garage, the two Fords run fine but the Chevy is having issues. The function of the other two does not effect the third. 😉0 -
Drew, thank you for responding. I checked the raid with the Apple utility and it seems fine. I ran the AJA system test and got 267MBs write and 385MBs read. Following your advice I opened one of the sessions from the backup drive on FW800. Capture One was it normal zippy self using the paint brush and other tools. Also the missing windows that were listed under the Window menu appeared in the middle of the second monitor.
Then I closed that sessions and quit Capture One. Then opened the same session from the raid volume and it was also back to normal. The windows that were not showing up were actually off the right of the second monitor. I was able to grab them and drag them over and view them. I also opened up an older session with .mos files and that session is responsive.
So at this point I am back in business. The only thing that I can think of, from my limited understanding, is that opening sessions from the other backup drive reset or changed some preferences or setting or something and that got things in sync.
Thanks larry0 -
I have been having the same issues, Choose a tool and wait forever before you can actually use it. Its like its deciding whether or not it wants to do something. 0
