C1 V6 printing trouble

Hi,

having some trouble to get usable prints out of C1. Printing from C1 gives me dull colors and a massive cyan cast in my prints.

Setup: OSX 10.6, Epson R2400, ICC v2 profile from ColorMunki, perceptive rendering.
Same print driver template / settings wich are known to work fine with LR and PS, e.g. same media type, color settings (off, no color management).

Softproof looks fine, but as mentioned before, the real print results look awful.
The exported files printed via LR with the same settings and profile everything matches and look fine.

Any hints?

    Sorry cannot help you with a solution.

    I had very similar experience with what I think are equivalent settings to those you describe which I posted

    Haven't had time to investigate further as I can get prints by other routes (LR or PS) if needed. I am also using no colour management settings for my set-up and so wasn't convinced by responses I had to my posts. My ICC profiles were done using top-nothch gear by a professional and I've not experienced any blotchiness whatsoever, the colours were miles out indicating to me a fundamental mismatch going on.

    Hopefully you'll get some more information and would be grateful if you keep me in the loop.

    Did another test using a vendor provided ICC-profile, but sadly, got the same bad result.

    C1 softproof ok -> print off
    PS softproof ok -> print ok
    LR print ok

    Macbook Intel OS 10.6 printing Canon Pro9000 Mk2 using RGB 1728 target measured in Profile Maker 5 with EyeOne and calculated with iMatch software. Created V2 and V4 files. All software with latest updates. The result from Capture 1 has a magenta cast compared to the output from Preview and LR3. No difference between V2 and V4 profiles. I have had a problem in printing the profile targets with no colour management in 10.6 So to make sure the targets were printed correctly I used my old G4 Macbook running Tiger and Photoshop CS with (no colour management) settings that I know work. There seems to be a problem with OSX and ICC profiles and Canon drivers no longer have the option to turn off colour management. I had no problem with Tiger, Snow Leopard is driving me mad !!

    Any advice on how to print the profile targets correctly using 10.6 ?

    Use the Preview program or the recently released Adobe Color Printing Utility ( http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/834/cpsid_83497.html ). I use it with my ProfileMaker 5 and Eye One Pro with excellent results.

    The Adobe program is for CS5 do not have that just an ancient version CS which I no longer use. One of the reasons for coming back to Capture One is the new printing module, trying to streamline my workflow. Preview seems to be the answer but there is conflicting info with regards what to set as the colorsync profile to null the colour management. The Canon drivers with 10.6 no longer have a no colour option. The work around as far as I can see is open target in Preview untagged, then print with a colorsync profile set to either Generic RGB or sRGB. This is meant to cancel any colour management.

    Is this correct ?

    I believe the Adobe program I mentioned earlier is created (for free) because PS CS5 does NOT have a no color management option anymore. You don't need to have CS5 but I have not installed it on 10.6 yet. I post a few screen dumps below of Preview (Leopard but Snow Leopard has similar dialogs). I use an Epson printer, but you get the idea. Basic concept when printing a target for profile creation is that you open your target (which has no profile embedded) and print it without color management. You disable color management both at OS X level (ColorSync) and at printer level. [do not use any RGB profile]

    Also note other relevant settings like media type, print quality and settings like High Speed. These should be set similar to what you will use later. I prefer to print the target from the system I print my quality prints with, because the chain involves more components like the printer driver version that I like to control for best and consistent results.

    Many thanks for your detailed reply. I will have another look at the Adobe program thought it was a plugin for CS5. The problem with Canon print drivers in 10.6 is that they have removed the 'No Color' option. Used to have an Epson 2400 so am fimiliar with disabling Epson colour management in the driver. Unfortunately there is no such option with the Canon drivers. Yes I know crazy !! In 10.4 the option is there so no problem. With 10.6 it appears you have to be tied to colorsync, this is why you set a default system profile (Generic RGB or sRGB) to cancel out any colour management - NULL profiling. However I am not happy that it actually works, so for the moment produce my target prints using my old G4 running Tiger with the required print settings for the paper I'm profiling. The profile produced prints fine in Preview and LR3. Pity there is this magenta cast when printing from Capture One.

    If this is the case, you'll need CS5 indeed. Please update to fill the gap in my knowledge! I have a test 10.6.6 system here, so I might do some digging myself too later and print from CO 6 as well.

    Just had another look at the Adobe application and you are right its a print utility not tied to Photoshop. At work away from home and my Mac so will have to wait to see if it will help me. I think I read somewhere it was for Epson printers only but not sure if I read that correctly. Anyone know if it will work with Canon printers.
