tethered shooting with sony a900/a700 ?
Hello,
I'd like to know if its possible to do tethered shootings with Capture One and Sony dslrs. and if it is, what do I have to change that it'll work on my Mac?
I set the camera usb mode to "Remote PC", plug in the cable and Capture One opens automatically, but tells me that there is no camera attached. I can't even use the release button because the a700/a900 tells me that it's still trying to establish a usb connection.
Are there any possibilities in changing some of the preferences of C1, and where can i find that points?
And if not, how can I prevent C1 from autostarting? If C1 doesn't work for my Sony, I don't need that function, it just costs time to close the application..
The Sony Remote Camera Control apps works without problems..

The current version of CO4 (4.5.2/Mac) does not support tethered operation for any Sony dSLR (only Canon, besides Phase One backs of course). Nikon tethered support is expected shortly, no news about Sony as far as I know.
A workaround is to use the camera software for the remote connection and remote control that you mentioned already and open the files in Capture One. For this purpose, CO4 supports hot folder and the Pro version should be able to display the latest capture automatically (please do try this at home, don't take my word for it).
The fact that CO4 starts when you connect the camera is a setting of OS X and the Image Capture application and not related to any tether function of CO4 (occurs with the Standard (non-Pro) release of CO4 as well, which does not support tethering at all and may also happen when you connect a memory card reader with images). To prevent the auto-start from happening, open Preferences of Image Capture program, and set camera connect to No Application.0 -
Oh wow. Thank you for that fast an accurate answer Paul.
So I have to wait for further releases to work with that setup the right way.
The hot folder function is an option that'll try in a minute. I hope it's faster than the one of lightroom (15 secs from shutter release until the image appears on the monitor).
edit: the testresult: 6-7 seconds. Thats as far as the Sony software is, and far enough for me for now. Thanks a lot again. 😊
and another upcoming question. The imported Sony images look kinda overexposed (around + 1,2EV - same as they do in Adobe Camera Raw). How can I force the hot folder to import the images directly with a preset?0 -

I'm trialing C1 Pro right now, and A900 tethering would push me over the edge. Bring it!
Christoph, here are the setting that I've found that work with the A900.
Camera settings (these give you a relatively accurate in-camera histogram):
Neutral CS
-1 saturation
-3 brightness
-1 ZONE
Adobe RGB
C1 PRO settings**:
linear curve
15 brightness
15 contrast
**I'm not in front of my own computer, but, if I remember correctly, those settings will help in C1. The linear curve is the most important part, and play around with the other settings. I usually have to move the midtone slider in levels to the right a bit as well.0 -
The last information I have form a Product Manager at Sony Camera division is that they do not have a SDK available for 3rd parties to implement tethered support for Sony cameras.
This renders it impossible for us to implement this support until Sony releases a SDK like Canon and Nikon has.0 -
Hi,
Good article. Thank you. I have a Sony A900. I purchased Capture One Pro 5.2 and would like to shoot thetered with the Sony. I can do this successfully in Lightroom, utilizing the Sony tool to save the captured file into a specific folder that Lightroom is monitoring. How do I set a Hot Folder in C1 Pro so I can load them for processing?
Tks,
