I had the same issue and opened a case with support. They confirmed that there was an old but now redundant pixel limit of 500 or so for h or w. I thought I'd read on one of the release notes since 9.2.1 that this restriction had been lifted but maybe from your experience this is not the case.

Given that you have resized the image in Ps and still get the error indicates some other factor is involved.

Here is the support case reply -

This is an old limitation when Capture One was "only" a raw converter there was no reason to have such small files as no camera had raw files smaller then that.

Now, when capture one is a DAM.. this limitation does not serve us well. Sorry about this. I will forward a feature request to remove this limitation.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Kind Regards,

Thanks for the info. It looks like the limit is still in place or was re-introduced. I thought I could simply "Open with->Photoshop" upscale and resave the image, and C1 would update and unlock the file. It doesn't. I have to "Edit with.." set up an export format, and re-import the file at a resolution higher than 512px (shortest edge) for it to register as unlocked. A real PITA for hundreds/thousands of images that I just need to tag and use for reference 🤓

This particular collection is over 10,000 images. 4,288 are less than 512px on the shortest side. I thought I'd write an Applescript (I'm on OSX) to resize them. The problem is that even after resizing, COP maintains the lock unless I completely reimport the image ☹️

I too filed a case with support and this is their response:

    Hi Jack,

It still hasn't been resolved, though I've added your case to the note for the R&D team to consider implementation.

I really don't want to move to Lightroom, so I'll give it a little while I suppose ☹️

    That's a shame Jack. Here's hoping for a fix in 10.1
