I am trying out a few Media Management packages to hopefully settle on one. I am trying to locate all my higher ISO shots for a certain year, say iso 1600 to test noise software. Expression Media is the only package I am having a hard time finding out how search for those parameters. Any help?

    Hi John,

    Using find, set these parameters as shown, if you do not set "does not contain sec" you will (in this example) get all images that have ISO 800 and 1/800sec.

    You do not really need the date search paremeters as it would be easier to click on the year you want in the date finder in the organise pane then apply your ISO search to those images.

    Thanks Paul. As an Expression Media 2nd day newbie, that helps me too.

    I came across another method to get at EXIF data, although it is less elegant (from an ianw post on the DAMbook iView MediaPro forum):

    Go to the 'list' view. Right click on the header line and you should get a list of all the data items that can be displayed. Scroll down the list until you get to the section on EXIF data and in here should be the Lens data - if your camera puts it into the EXIF data. Select this item and it will appear as a column in the list view - although it may not be visible immediately, you may need to drag the columns about and resize them.

    Anyway once you have the lens details as a column you can sort on them, which means you can then select on them.

    Can't work Paul - there won't be any image files with 800 ISO and no recorded shutter speed. Every 800 ISO file will also have "sec" recorded against it, so the "Photo Info doesn't contain sec" test can have no effect.

    I've just tested it, and get the exact same search results whether I include the "doesn't contain sec" test or not.

    You are correct Keith, I could have swore it worked the first time for me! 🤭

    This deifinatly works as I have double checked it.
    If there is a gap between ISO and 800 it does not work.

    Hi,

    Yes xMedia can search EXIF using the Quick Search dialog box but only on live files (i.e. those on drives/discs connected to the computer).

    Strange that, it has no problems searching my off line files on a disconnected external HD!

    Was that using the Quick Search dialog on the top right? Or another method: List view, Find dialog (Ctrl+F), etc?

    That was using Find. But the quick search bar cannot search exif info even when the files are live, it can only search Media Info and IPTC but not photo exif info, which is why I presumed you were talking about the find box.
