If I text edit any xmp file all I see is exif and iptc info.

This really may be a deal breaker for me and a reason to stay with LR. I need a way to exchange individual files _with_ the adjustments / edits I made. Any help...? ☹️

If you set the preferences as pack as EIP files, then everything about the image is stored in that. So you could just then pass around the EIP file. I have not tried it as I don't have the need but that is what I believe the EIP packing is for.

As Robert says Pack as EIP keeps it altogether as one file, alternatively File>Export Images>Originals and tick Include Adjustments will also do it but creates C1 preference files alongside it.

FYI if you look in a session you will see a Capture One folder which is created for each session and this is where I believe the information is stored.

Thanks for your very helpful replies, this works for me.

I probably won't use EIP files (because I don't like to be locked into another proprietary format) and I would have preferred having all the adjustments in one simple sidecar file (as opposed to several files buried in a nested folder structure...), but those are minor quirks I can live with.

The xmp sidecar might be a simple text file, but if the sending and receiving parties don't agree on what's in there, it's of no use either. It is then proprietary as well. AFAIK, there are no standard adjustment keys in a xmp, only metadata (correct me if I'm wrong). You won't be able to exchange the adjustments between C1 and LR. And if both sides use the same program, then why bother? It's only a way of trasnport, something transient.

Of course, if you're planning on using them for archiving, you have a point. But then, the xmp is not safe either. Its only advantage is that you can read it with a text editor and see the adjustment in numbers. (Maybe C1 files are also text, don't know.)

    Cheers,
    Peter.
