Keywords and Hierarchical keywords relationship
I am a bit puzzled a to how this works.
I am adding keywords from the vocabulary by selecting images and then selecting the keywords from the drop down list in the Media Info panel
These additions are reflected in the Catalog Fields Keyword list, but not in the Hierarchical keyword list. Which seems stuck at some point in the past in terms of keywords listed and the number of images per keyword.
As it seems it is hierarchical keywords that are exported to XMP file. It also means that the changes in the catalog fields keyword list are not being updated in the xmp files when annotations are exported.
I have tried relaunching MP and rebuilding the thumbnails, just in case, but I am obviously missing something.
Can anyone point out what I am doing wrong.
Many thanks,
Graham

I think that's normal if you're starting with flat (regular) keywords. Think about it... How would Media Pro know where in the hierarchy those words fit? Hierarchical keywords automatically get reflected in the flat keyword list, but not the other way around. If you want hierarchical keywords, you have to use the Hierarchical Keywords section of the Organize Panel. It's a separate tool (i.e., not tied into the Vocabulary editor).
Or am I misunderstanding your question?0 -

No, I don't think so, but as I haven't added any words to the hierarchical key word list, and only added them via the vocabulary, I made the wrong assumption that keywords in the vocabulary were added as top level keywords in the hierarchical keyword list.
Still puzzled by that one. Unless, when I imported the files into MP the hierarchical keyword list was populated by the keywords in the XML files of the imported files.
However, the real question is the updating the XML files from MP. As it is, none of my new keywords are being updated in the XML files, because the XMLs appear to be only updated with hierarchical keyword.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry, can't help with your XMP question as I have very little experience with XMP, and never importing. All I know is that a sample XMP export file for two images shows flat (regular) keywords in the annotations sections for those images. The XMP file also includes all of my catalog's hierarchical keywords (even those not used for the two images) in a separate section, treating them like catalog sets. I assume that's normal. But I know that doesn't help with your question. 0 -

Actually, you have helped in that it seems to be working for you as I thought it would. I will need to look at this again and see if the issue is something I am doing, or not doing.
edit: well for whatever the reason, it's working today. Yesterday, while watching the C1 keyword counts when exporting annotations from MP, they weren't changing. Today when I export annotations from MP, the C1 keyword counts are counting up during the export as they did the last time I did this. So who knows what was happening. I was obviously sidetracked by the "hierarchical key word issue".

just be ware that until now there is no compatibility Workflow for Hierarchical keywords between C1 and MP
this makes the user very confused.
if you are using C1 9 with MP SE you will see how bad are the keywords function made between 2 Programms from the same house.
one of the importing thing is the keywords in C1 are written inside the DB and they are not case sensitiv, searching for them is a big disaster bird ist not like Bird .
if you tray to transport therm to MP you will get confused. thats way it works different from day to day .
for this easy Work your have to do many clicks .. which don't makes sense for a DAM PRO.
this APP don't like to bee developed 🤓0 -

Thanks, this hasn't been a problem yet as I do all DAM operations in MP and only use C1 as a raw converter, but worthwhile knowing as I am in the process of rethinking my workflow.
