Creating a variant takes a fraction of a second and creates a very small file. I find it extremely useful.

It provides for instant side by side comparisons of (multiple) variations if so desired.

How is that overweight? Much less effort than making a screen shot ...

I also recognise the benefits (and the processing overhead) of being able to switch tools on and off in real time but only layers have such functionality, currently, as a permanent on/off switch in C1.

I use other software that offers control over everything and sometimes it can be useful but it requires a lot more effort from the user to produce the results in high file volume situations more than 99% of the time. I still use the variant concept with that system if comparing the results of different images. It allows much greater flexibility for comparing images.

    HTH.

Ok, maybe "overweight" isn't the right term, true. But creating a second instance of an image as a container to store my settings that I just want deactivated for a while is just not the most direct way, or in other words: It's a workaround.

Wow, however great CO8 is otherwise, I'm a little surprised with how many workarounds it still requires for standard stuff.

But ok, that answers my question, thank you very much for your answer.

Click and hold local reset while holding option/alt will temporarily disable the adjustment.

Jim, thanks for your reply, it's very helpful that you people from P1 also reply in the user forums.

Yeah, I've seen that possiblity, but I'm referring to "locking" that disable state.
