3.7 colour management - dunce needs helps
Hello, first post to this forum, pro shooter working out of Bristol UK.
http://www.photo.uk.com for those of you interested.
Having trouble with colour (as that is how we spell it rightly or wrongly!).
My issue is this. When I open an image processed from c1 in Photoshop CS it looks dull, flatter with some colour shifts, I did not notice this on the pre release version (3.7) in fact I thought it was making a pretty good job of things.
My workflow is thus:
Shoot Raw on 1DS Mk11 either tethered to G4 laptop or by card then put on laptop.
Usually I will look at images in C1 on the laptop to reassure clients and me that I am indeed the genius I purport to be!!! (why be modest?)
When back in studio copy folders to G5, this has a monitor calibration done by an eye one,in the system setting the colour for the monitor are set to this profile.
I then work on the images in C1.
In the colour section of the program I have set the profile to Generic 1Ds Mk11 but I always make slider adjustments, In the processing settings the high res files go out with the Adobe 1998 profile set in the destination.
When opened in photoshop which is also set to Adobe 1998 I get no profile mismatch warning which one would expect if something had gone awry. The image when viewed then looks flatter with some colour shifts.
What am I doing wrong? I am no tecchie and this has an effect of turning my brain to jelly.
Would any of you kind souls let me know what i am doing wrong.
Thanks
William King

Your colour set up sounds okay to me. If for instance your screen profile was at fault both C1 and Pshop should still look the same. The only thing I can think of is that the C1 previews are at fault. Try navigating to a 'processed' picture in C1 and comparing it with the same pic open in Pshop side by side. I have found previews often bear little resemblence to the finished picture. Especially with EC adjustments etc. Are you using extended desktop on an extra monitor or just one screen?

Hi Damien
Thanks for the reply, very nice to here from a fellow Bristolian.
\"The only thing I can think of is that the C1 previews are at fault.\"
You have hit the nail on the head. After many hours of headscratching and some procrastination by wandering off to do other things I realised that this was quite an old job shot about 4 weeks ago for which the client has taken his time with selects.
It did not occur to me until late yesterday, but then I simply threw away the C1 folders associated with the RAW files and then relaunched C1 so that it would regenerate the data, and Bob is now my uncle.
It is possible that I was on the version before the 3.7 beta when this job was shot and it would seem that it didn't like the old data.
Thanks again for your reply.
