C5 crashing while generating proxies and browsing

C5 is crashing repeatedly if I try to browse (click on on thumbnail to display the image in the main edit window) while it is generating proxies for a large 110 GB folder that has about 4,200 images in it. Is this to be expected for a folder of images this large?

Right now I am just letting it finish generating the proxies before I try to browse or edit and images. I am running the latest version - 5.1.1

  That is in general best practice, besides splitting up this amount of images in multiple folders.
