good god above...the simplest things - deleting
I know coming from another system can make the simplest thing hard, but I need help with the most stupid thing ever.
Deleting files.
I have been enjoying C1 - just uploaded some images from a lens test to compare, don't need to keep them. went to last import, selected all the images, right click to delete, but delete is greyed out. Delete button on keyboard does nothing. Unselect, reselect all, no delete in the menu. Hunt for a delete function - can't find one.
End up in customise toolbars, find an organize tile I can drag onto my toolbar - seems ridiculous, but do it anyway - select all, hit delete, only one file deletes. over and over.
Mess about in menus, find a function to edit all variants - ~I click that. Now they all delete, but only to catalog trash, and I still don't know if the files are clogging up my hard disk or gone forever.
In lightroom, I select what I want, hit delete or right click and select delete, and LR asks me if I want to delete from just catalog or harddisk too, and I choose.
In C1 I have to customise toolbars, select vaguely worded and unintuitively connected menu options, then delete from catalog and I still don't know where I am.
Could someone kindly put me out of my misery - I must be missing something very dumb indeed as this can't be the process. Are they gone from my hard disk?
Thanks, am feeling VERY newbie here not being able to do basic functions

Are you positive you're trying to delete from within Catalog Collections > Recent Imports and not from a User Collection? 0 -
Definitely not from a user collection.
Does it sound to you like this is something I am doing wrong? It seems to me it must be, but I just can't see what.
Can anyone talk me through their culling process, and specifically how they get rid of the unselected/unwanted shots please, I can try to replicate.
Many thanks0 -
Well I simply right-click them, select "Remove From Catalog" and then click "Move To Trash". But this doesn't work from a user collection (from a user collection, "Remove From Catalog" changes to "Remove From Album"). 0 -
So when I right click (from within 'recent imports') and click remove from catalog, the image just disappears - I don't get a further option to move to trash, and I presume then it is still clogging my harddrive somewhere? 0 -
In Preferences > Warnings, do you have all the boxes checked? 0 -

For me, the easiest way is to mark the unwanted images with a color. I've assigned the 'x' key to set the color to Red.
I have a smart album that lists the images marked with Red, and from there I can delete them (Using Cmd-Delete).

NNN635887555504104078, I can't give you the exact steps as I use referenced files. Difference being, that the files are not stored in the C1 catalog but any location of your choosing. So when deleting from a catalog collection, C1 will prompt you whether to just remove the reference to the catalog or also moving the file to the system trash. My guess is, you use a catalog that stores files internally, so I think you will not be getting that prompt. However, deleting files from your "Recent Imports" will likely just move them into the C1 Trash (right below "Recent Captures") where you could potentially recover them if needed. So the files you deleted are probably in that Trash. Just right-click on the Trash and select "Empty Catalog Trash". This will either move the files to the system trash or immediately delete them. Have never tried that. - If you've ever used Aperture, that application internal trash is the same concept there. Only once you empty the trash, they'll be moved to the system trash. Which, you'll have to empty as well if you want them completely gone from disk.
There is also "Delete Permanently" shortcut in the "File" menu, however I've never seen that active to be used anywhere. So I don't know what it does or under which conditions you could use it.0
