Local Adjustments in Quick Tab
Just upgraded from 6, and for some reason, my local adjustments are not available in the quick tab. Is this by design? Just concerned, as switching tabs to dodge and burn is going to greatly affect my workflow speed. Hopefully I'm just missing something.

The way C1 'activates' the layer/background selection changed between V6 and V7 although the basis of functionality is much the same.
Those tools that can be used in a layer now have their own tab where they are all activated for use on the "selected layer" by default. Elsewhere - the "Quick" menu for example - they are not pre-activated and so by default will always act on the background.
Personally I have come to find it easier to use the Layers tab when working with layers and just treat the background as another layer. If you want to make this another version of your Quick tab by adding some other tools to it there is no reason not to do so so long as you remember that not all tools are "layer aware"!
You could, for example, add another Exposure tool to the Layers tab. By default this would not be activated for layer awareness so it would always change the background not the active layer. You could do the same with floating tools too. And maybe create a dedicated Workspace for such activity.
And of course you can do the same thing the other way around and add another tool to the Quick Tab then set it to be Activated for use on the selected layer. Or just use the one that is there. To do this click on the little triangle at the right hand side of the tool's header bar and then set (or unset) the "Adjust Selected Layer" option. Remember then to select the layer you want to edit before making changes using the activated tools. There is a Layer selection box on the left hand side of the tool tab bar at the top of the edit window.
I think a few people, myself included, found the revised functionality a little "different" when we first came to use it but after a short while everything fell into place naturally once more. I also, now, find it faster than the old way as I am always much more aware of pre-selecting the layer I wish to work on than I was before - and so remember to do it!
HTH.
