Nikon Tethering and Sierra
Hi All,
My main computer is still on Yosemite, but my backup (13"MBPr) I upgraded to Sierra, and now my D810 doesn't tether (into any program). My D4 works just fine on either computer..
I've done some research, and the closest thing I could find is speculation that Apple may have depreciated the Nikon SDK in El Cap, so USB3 Nikons can't tether into any newer MacOS since Yosemite.. Or at least not until Nikon writes a new SDK (when Hell freezes over)
How can I solve this without rolling back to Yosemite?
Thanks!

Apple does not "depreciate" other vendors SKD but in any case Nikon SDK has nothing to do with your problem. The teetering APIs are written by Phase One. The API's are working fine proof is that your D4 is working. I am assuming you are using teether tools cables and the power boost? If not most probably your problem is right there. Try resetting your D810 and give it a few extra seconds to connect0 -
Alececco is right - we do not use any code from Nikon to tether the device to our app (and haven't for some time) so the SDK talk is not relevant here.
What 10.12 has changed is some standards in how it talks with PTP devices. We addressed this in 9.3.
If you have 10.12 and 9.3, and tested with a powered hub, then open a ticket with support for assistance: http://support.phaseone.com0 -

As a workaround you can try to just use the USB2 part of the Nikon USB3 connection (the longer part of the two). That helped me also on focal to connect the D810.0 -
Thanks everyone!
Yes I tried using the Tether Tools tether booster, shorter cables, everything within the normal battery of tests. The D4 works fine on both, the D810 sometimes will connect to the 13", and the D810 works fine on the 15" running Yosemite.
I might just have to open a ticket.

I think you may find that the problem is potentially related to the USB connectors in the camera bodies on those models.
There have been quite a lot of reports of inconsistencies and problems that do not seem to exist with other bodies - your D4 for example.
I'm not sure how Phase could help with that - other than to provide the same advice given to others in various posts on the forum.
You could check with Nikon I suppose.

I run capture one 9.3 but still on El Capitan with my D810, for now I'll hold on updating to sierra.
Incidentally a college of mine who shoots to the dreaded Lightroom with his D810 has updated to Sierra without any issues.0
