Update procedure?

What's the procedure for doing an upgrade - say from 3.7.4 to 3.7.5 (Windows)? Uninstall old and install new?

The release notes with the download say, "If you install into an existing installation of Capture One, it is recommended that you take a backup of your settings before installing the new version."

Sounds like good advice. Where are the settings?

  If you have a look in the "Program Files\\Phase One\\Capture One" directory you'll see a "Preferences" directory. If you sort those files by modification date, the last few in the list will not camera or curve settings, but more obviously settings files. You can back those up.
  
  Additionally the ".C1w" files (sort by type) in the "Previews" folder are the important ones. They are the work files that hold the individual settings for each image you have adjusted.
  
  You can also use the Workflow -> Selected Capture settings -> Save to archive... menu to back up specific image settings to a specific directory (like if you are going to archive images to DVD and want the Capture One settings stored along with them) from within the program.

  Thanks, Christopher. I expect that backing up these files is insurance -- installing an updated version should not delete or overwrite them.
  
  Now, does one uninstall the old version of CO before installing the new, or can one just install over the new?

  Mike,
  
  Go ahead and Install over existing.
  I've done it both ways - over existing and after an Uninstall of previous.
  My Preferences remained and my Activation transferred without issue for both.
  
  I believe the precaution for back-up is for custom or 3rd party profiles used, and saved WB or Curve files saved.
  
  You will see in Add/Remove programs that 3.7.4 still exists, but it does not.
  When an upgrade is installed, a New Uninstaller is loaded as well.

  If it bugs you that you see 3.7.4 and 3.7.5 in the add/remove programs you can manually remove the 3.7.4 by doing the following.
  
  Click Start , click Run , type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
  
  
  Locate and click the following registry key:
  
  
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall
  After you click the Uninstall registry key, click Export Registry File on the Registry menu.
  
  
  In the Export Registry File dialog box, click Desktop in the Save in box, type uninstall in the File name box, and then click Save .
  
  
  Each key under Uninstall represents a program that appears in Add/Remove Programs. To determine which program that each key represents, click the key, and then view the following values:
  
  
  DisplayName - the value data for the DisplayName key is the name that is listed in Add/Remove Programs
  
  -and-
  
  UninstallString - the value data for the UninstallString key is the program that is used to uninstall the program
  After you identify the registry key that represents the program that is still in Add/Remove Programs, right-click the key, and then click Delete .
  
  
  After you delete the key, click Start , point to Settings , and then click Control Panel .
  
  
  In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs .
  
  
  In Add/Remove Programs, verify that the program for which you deleted the registry key is not listed.
  
  
  If the program list is not correct in Add/Remove Programs, you can double-click the Uninstall.reg file on your desktop to restore the original list of programs in the registry.
  
  
  If the program list is correct in Add/Remove Programs, you can right-click the Uninstall.reg file on your desktop, and then click Delete .
