Tethering via Fw800 enclosure

I was wondering if anyone has had success in tethering while using a FW800 enclosure without having to use a battery to keep the back powered?

Interested in solutions with thunderbolt connections with the new Mac Pro.

  Its recommended that you use the FW800 Repeater or a Powered Hub for a stable connection through the Thunderbolt adapter as well as switching the Power Management to Battery instead of Auto-Detect.
  
  Digital Transitions did a test and results have shown that above settings had high reliability compared to constant disconnections using auto-detect power option.
