MediaPro crashes on startup.. every time
Reluctant to upgrade straight away, despite (and because of!) the annoyance with Microsoft's handling of iView Media Pro, I've just downloaded the trial version of Phase One Media Pro.
Ran it for the first time... then bang... "Media Pro quit unexpectedly".
Won't open at all, crashes EVERY time before anything even launches.
Not looking good so far.

I have the same problem on my MacPro, not on my macBook Pro. I tried all the suggestions here with no avail. Warning, though. If you delete the EM2 files suggested here, you'll lose your registration licence code. If you don't have it written down somewhere, you'll not be able to use your previously registered EM2. 0 -

Only "a few"? All iMacs, Mac Pros and Macbook Pros since 2008, as well as the MacMini from 2010, can use a 64bit kernel. Many of those just don't use it by default. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3773 on how to switch.0 -
My MacPro (2007) won't boot in 64, but here's a support response which solved my problem. It opens & functions fine, after I did this-
Please delete all of the files associated with Media Pro and try to reinstall again.
Go into Home>Library>Application Support. Delete these 2 folders: Expression Media 2 & Phase One Media Pro
Go into Home>Library>Preferences. Delete these 2 files: com.microsoft.expressionmedia2.plist, com.phaseone.mediapro.settings & com.phaseone.mediapro.plist0 -

I'm well aware of this. No MacBook or MacBook air, no pre-2008 Mac. This is only a small fraction of the Macs meeting the requirements for running Media Pro (Intel processor, 2GB RAM, leopard), which is what I meant by "a few".0 -
I don't think it is anything to do with running in 32 bit mode - I was already running on a 64bit kernel when it crashed for me. Got it working after moving/renaming the existing Expression Media prefs (which is wrong in my opinion - it should sever all ties with Expression Media!)... however, it's still unreliable, prone to crashing, sluggish, and quite honestly, I don't think I'm going to be convinced in the few days left of my 30 trial.... The trial period has, for me at least, been wasted on buggy software that is too unreliable to waste any more time on... If an update comes after the 30 days, I'll have no way of testing it. 0 -
it may help a few of you: I have never installed Expression Media on my current Mac Pro, but had some backups from a former Mac still on an external hd. On one of this backups there were remaining plists from expression media. after deleting them, mp starts at least.
but it crashes every few minutes.
am i the only one, where mp uses up to 16EB (!) of virtual memory? I do belive, that this is not a wanted behavior, is it?0 -
just realized, that Media Pro works fine again after uninstalling SneakPeak Photo. With SneakPeek Photo, Media Pro hangs during startup. 0 -
so how many other tools must we uninstall to use this "beta"? So far: Sneakpeak Photo, Codecs from FastViewer... the list goes on! 😐 0 -

Thanks, this actually worked for some bizarre reason.
I say bizarre because I never had any Expression Media files on my Mac anyway as I reverted back to iView Pro a long time ago after using EM for 5 minutes. So simply deleting all the newly installed Media Pro app, pref and support files and reinstalling... worked. Because it was simply repeating the same install again I expected it to just act the same as before, ie fail to re-launch after the first try, but nope, it has launched and launched again. Very odd. But good. Happy now.0 -

I was trying to start Media Pro and it crashed 10 times or more on startup even tho I deleted all preference files and such. Then I remembered this thread and saw the post about SneakPeak Photo.
I didn't want to uninstall SneakPeak Photo so I looked at the settings instead. There is a setting for RAW images that kinda falls into the same category so I unchecked "Badge RAW Images". And Media Pro started directly after.
I then quit Media Pro and reversed the setting but then Media Pro started again. So I am not sure what happened but if someone else have the starting problems and SneakPeak Photo it would be interesting to compare.0 -
Thanks for the tip with SneakPeek Photo. I have instaed SneakPeek Pro installed but it looks the same. First I Try to update SneakPeek Pro to the latest version, but all stil the same. But after uninstalling SneakPeek Pro Media Pro start fine.
Sorry guys pleas do your Homework. Why we have Problems in Media Pro that I never had in Expression media? That ist strange. And Why is the software slower than EM2????0 -

Yes i have updated to 1.0.1. Now without SneakPeek Pro it works. But media Pro is much slower than EM2 and in this Moment I have absolutly no trust in MP so i'm sad to say that I don't want to use it for the Moment. To Dangerus that I coud loos my Libarys or Pictures. I Hope that we will see a real update soon. 0 -

it hangs at beginning and I dont have the chance to test it in the 30 days trial.
After that it ruins my iview configuration
This software seems not ready and I dont want to ruin my "iview configuration" for it
The first quality of software (as alimentation and medicine) must be "at least, dont harm !!!)0
