Im Humbly Back ... (C1 + Mylio)
Hello Guys,
I tried. I really tried to leave Capture One. Mainly because of the catalog not being up to snuff. I had used sessions in the past and they are great for what they are, containers of the shoot. For me best used for a model studio shoot.
Because of all the issues, and I was shooting more non studio type work I decided to abandon C1. I had one more payment left so thought now or never. I dont mind subscription because, I really do not mind paying if the product being developed. Other people have to eat too.
I have recently done 3 studio shoots this week. And I have to say, that my words before I left about 'good enough' went out the door on a studio shoot. I was feeling comfortable with my decision leaving C1 about 5 or 6 weeks ago, but faced with developing these studio shoots, I have to say that C1 does such a good job (and with ease) that for studio work I have to retract my 'good enough' statement for the other products I used and bought.
The initial import in C1 just does so much better (I know I can work at the photos in the other packages, but thats my point .. the time). Also as a former Aperture user C1 is closest to what Im used too.
THE GOOD
What I did discover was Mylio. Maybe not for everyone but its pure speed for cataloging, and ability to keep images (original or preview or thumbnail - you pick) on multiple devices (iPad, iPhone, iMac, my Mac Mini, and a remote hard drive) is flawless. The Raw converter is nice (and they improving). I use their Raw Edit for my "family" type shots. Edits made on any device are instantly on all other devices. Lovely. Yes you can do an EDIT WITH and C1 will launch. I dont like having my images on the cloud and this is what makes this different than say Apple Photos.
What I would like to find is a workflow for mylio + C1.
Right now Mylio will automatically read any directly structure below the main folder. So if there is a C1 Session in that structure you will see the CAPTURE, SELECT,OUTPUT and TRASH folder. Edits you make in C1 will not be seen in Mylio, but any JPG or TIFF or PSD you write back out would be. Also if you edit in Mylio C1 will not see the edits. I also keep the XMP set to Full Sync.
Since I only edit the Sessions in C1 Im fairly save.
Anyone else use Mylio and have another approach?
Best approach to Final cooking of images to store in DAM?
This leads to a last question. Obviously if I want to see the C1 Edits in Mylio I need to cook them. I used to do TIF as although JPG are good there are cases where there is pixilation for some sky conditions, and editing them is a no no. So purly for simplification of doing everything the same I would send them to TIF. However PNG seems new. They say lossless, and could edit them again? My Gut is saying stick to TIF just wondering other peoples thoughts.
Thanks in Advance.
BTW the C1 10.1 seems a bit better ... maybe they improving ... fingers crossed.
