Smoothness control in color editor

    Hi,

you can compare it to the threshold in sharpening. So lowering the smoothness value means that the colour selection gets more strictly, closer to the source - and such less "smooth" so that selected pixel (groups) which suffered a change in hue and/or saturation and/or lightness may pop out / get (more or less) individually visible which is normally not wanted. But it can be interesting when working with (almost) solid colours for changes in hue, saturation, lightness as mentioned for a specific effect.

P.S. You can test this by selecting with the pick-color a coloured area and then change hue, saturation, lightness to the maximum and minimum settings. Then change also the smoothness slider and you'll see that different parts (ranges) of the selected colour are affected by the changes.

In addition to Michael11's post, you can review the effect of the Smoothness slider by selecting 'View selected color' check box at the bottom of the Color Editor. The entire image is display in B&w except for the selected color. Now changing the smoothness of your selecting will result in a change of selecting making more/less of your image colored or B&W.

Thanks for the pointers. I shall try some more experiments.

Yes, this is one of the CO features I use a lot e.g. to reduce the red color on noses as it with the smoothness slider is possible rather exactly to isolate the area to be impacted. Sometimes I must also decrease the angel in the color cicle.
