Not soft enough with C1 compared to LR
I have uploaded three versions of a portrait on 500px as per the link below.
One version is the original file, just converted to B/W. A second version is softened using Lightroom 5 (luminance 100, detail 0) and the third version is softened using Capture One v.8 (sharpness 0, noise reduction 100, clarity -100 and structure -100)
With C1, I am unable to achieve the the degree of softness I want. With LR that is no problem.
What am I doing wrong? What should I do additionally?
Thanks in advance for any help.

you might experiment with different Clarity methods. Which did you use? 0 -
I used all four methods. There was a slight quality difference between them, but not quantity difference with regard to the softness degree.

You may add a new adjustment layer/invert mask and apply a -100 clarity and/or similar softening adjustments on that. 0 -
Thank you for your reply. I have now used 16 layers in Capture 1 (more is not possible) and for each layer I set both Clarity and Luminance to 100. Still the result is not what I had expected and what I am used to from Lightroom.
Admittedly, this is not an effect that I use frequently, last time I used it was a year ago, but I would like to be able to achieve this effect in Capture One so that I can use single one program for everything.
I have uploaded there versions to 500px if somebody is interested in seeing them (original, softened using LR and softened using C1). Scroll down in 500 px to view details. Thank you.

I think you meant you set your Clarity and Structure to -100 in each layer, not 100, yes? This is very odd. I created two layers with the entire screen masked and set the clarity and structure to -100. The image looks like a Lomographer's dream of blur and soft focus. Adding a third layer or more does nothing. Lowering the sharpness didn't change much either. Here's what I get with two layers.

Hopefully the link works. 😊 It's a "camera-scanned" film negative. The left side should be softened and the right side untouched at all. There is almost no detail remaining in the grass on the left.0 -
Weird,
A single dose of -100/-100 with the "Classic" clarity option chosen, has a massive effect here.0 -
Thank you all for your input!
The problem has been solved. I had been working on a JPEG file, and on JPEG files the clarity adjustment does not work, just like Auto Mask does not work on JPEG files.
I have now processed some RAW files and there the clarity adjustments have a - massive - effect.
A new picture of another young lady has been added to the previous 500px images, this time softened in Capture 1 without using layers.

I've contacted tech support with this feature request.
Me too think that a "real" blur tool with some flexibilty is of great value.
How many votes are required to have it fixed?

The OP was able to achieve his aims in Capture One, so I'm not sure there's a case for a feature request.
I spend all my time getting things as sharp as is humanly possible, so I won't be backing this request.0 -
I back it. In Aperture I used is a few times and I like when I can do all my editing without the help of an external editor. 0
