capturing to 2 computers
as i recall, there is a way to shoot to one computer and have the previews show up on another computer, so the PR people can be in another room for example...
also, i am wanting to capture to one computer and have the other computer being operated so as to print selected files. (access to the Raw files for developing)
does anyone know how to accomplish this?
thanks

Glenn,
Some thoughts, high level, hope others will join.
Prerequisite: will you be working tethered or with wireless transfer for camera-to-capturing computer? See comments later.
Your first requirement (PR people watching) could be established in two ways: a) have the PR people look at a secondary display that mirrors the capturing computer's screen; b) have the PR people look at a screen of a second computer that is connected through the network with the capturing computer. The second computer connects to a file share on the first computer with a program that automatically displays the latest picture coming into that folder.
Your second requirement (print operator) is easily done with a second computer with network connection to the first and running the raw processing and printing software. This solution can be combined with either solution a or b from the first requirement if you need to but is independent from that solution.
Regarding my prerequisite (tethered or wireless): it has some impact on where the images are stored and how they show up. In the tethered setup you have (in general) the last image show up automatically on the capturing computer (and its second display mirror of course), but you are sticked to that computer to store the image. In case of wireless transfer, basically FTP but more enhanced options exist (Canon), you have more freedom in a network computer environment: you can use any computer to store the images on. However, dedicated software is required to display the last image automatically (Photo Mechanic comes to mind).
Hope this helps.0 -
I have done something like this before. I was shooting tethered with a phase one back to one mac. I used one of the capture one scripts to automatically create a quick proof. I think I had to modify it a bit to do quick proof instead of HQ file. I then just used apple share to share the quick proof folder over the wireless to a computer in another room. I then navigated to that shared folder with Adobe Bridge on that computer, they would then show up automatically on the second mac in adobe bridge as they were being shot. Only hardware required, an extra computer.
The only drawback, there was a lag of several minutes that built up if I shot too fast. This might not matter if the people are only observing and not trying to direct anything. (they would not know the difference) Also I was using an older G5, a newer computer may keep up.0 -
capturing tethered... i have tried linking 2 computers via ethernet and either opening the session or mounting the capture folder of the capturing computer with another computer. the problem is that the images do not automatically refresh. i must click on another folder (like the process folder and then back to the capture folder) and then all images shot appear on the secondary computer.
if i am processing images, clicking on that folder and back to the capture folder is going to become increasingly time consuming.
ideas?
