Limit lens correction profiles
Hi there,
I have recently been using the Express version with my Fujifilm camera, and I am both very impressed and grateful for the generous offering of Capture One as a Fujifilm customer.
There is one thing that keeps nagging me though, and I am wondering if there is a workaround, or perhaps this is new in the pipeline for a future release.
I own several Fujifilm X-series lenses, but not all. I find that Capture One will sometimes apply a lens correction profile for the wrong lens (i.e. 8-16mm instead of 10-24mm). I also find that when I have to select a lens profile manually, I get shown options for many lenses, most of them not applicable to my X-series camera.
Is there a way to specify a list of the lenses I actually use, and hide the others?

You should report the apparent mis-match for the lens to Phase using the Support Case system.
The is a Link for "Contact Support" in the help menu. When linked scroll down the page for the option you need.
I cannot answer the rest of your questions specifically except to say that normally C1 will either apply the corrections supplied by the lens/camera body combination as defined by the manufacturer or, if they have tested a specific lens model in their labs, make their own corrections available. Given this any personalised list of lenses might be considered mostly unnecessary for practical purposes for most users.
By default if one looks for lenses to apply because the auto association is not to one's liking, you would normally only see the camera manufacturer's lenses or lenses related to that manufacturer. However there is nothing to stop you opening up the list to see and select any lens correction that is available.
If you have not already looked at the Pro version of C1 I would recommend that you should to assess the additional functionality that is available.

Thanks! I think the reason I thought I had to apply it manually is that I have a collection DNGs that have been made through the "Enhance Details" Lightroom function and they probably lack the correct metadata. Using fresh .RAF files from my camera it does try to pick one automatically.
Another question—there are parameters for lens corrections, like distortion, sharpness falloff and vignetting. For some lenses (the ultra wides) I would like these always applied. Do you know if there is a way to use different settings for different lenses (in the Pro version)?0 -

The DNGs might well be a challenge. I know just enough about DNGs to be wary of them!
For adjustments check out the Lens Correction tool and a few other related tools that should all be grouped in the Len related tool tab (in the default Workspace - but of course that is user modifiable.)
You can save specific settings as presets so per lens and per aperture per focal length (for zooms) you could if you wish create a series of presets as starting points for adjustment. If the need of the lens might be that demanding.
As far as I recall there is no way of getting C1 to auto identify a particular lens/aperture setting in order to auto apply a a user defined preset but I'm sure others will correct me if I am wrong.
However presets can be selected for automatic application on Import which, potentially, provides a method of applying correction in a batch even if only a manual approach.
How effective that might be would very much depend on the lens in question and the way you shoot things.
If an entire shoot is taken with one lens and it's corrections are global for all settings then a preset applied at import would be a good approach.
If the lenses requires different values for different settings, you change the settings frequently in the shoot and perhaps also change lenses frequently then a batch application of a preset probably won't work for you.
You could import in batches filtered by lens and settings and apply the corrections required for each batch but, realistically, if you are going to do that you may as well just import and then batch process by a filtered selection after import (and, possibly, after culling any images you decide not to process.)
I don't think there can be a 'standard' approach to a workflow for this challenge but at a personal level of preference you should be able to come up with something that works for you and, via a preset, saves some time.

Thank you. I'll suggest it to Phase One if I get the opportunity, though it is probably adding too much complexity. I have tried creating a preset for it and that works well.0
