Crashing like crazy
Dont' know about everyone else, but the latest CO update is a crash maniac. I'm spending the evening opening up old sessions and looking for select pics to export. I think this thing has crashed close to 30 times; nearly once on every session opening now.
I have Media Pro and there are constant metadata synch activity windows opening up during the session launch so I really don't know if MP might be the issue.
Honestly, I'm throwing in the towel. If I can get the previous v. of CO7, I'm going to revert to that and stay put. Media Pro is getting removed altogether this evening.
I gave up sending crash reports because they take about 30 seconds to process and it's happening so much I'll never get anyhting else done. Besides, I've NEVER been contacted for the other hundred I've sent.
I'm convinced the engineers working on CO/MP could care less. I've never seen so much ambivalence from a company like I've seen here. Besides the complete lack of communications they keep with their paying users, it seems that they have a consistent ethic of rolling out untested, pre-beta software and charging full price for it.
My wife and I are about 3/5 of the way toward our entry into medium format and after dealing with these guys for the pst two years, I'm 100% writing off this company and going with Hasselblad. It will have it's problems but it can't possibly be any worse than this bunch.
Unreal. Working on this software tonight is just plain comical.

This is not at all the common behavior, and should of course not happen.
A few questions:
- What version are you running ?
- What version of OSX?
- Have you written to Support yet ?
Are you doing anything specific to make it crash consistently?
As for the crash-logs, we use and analyze them intensively, but we cannot not provide direct answers for the reports.0 -
Have you turned off the open CL? They should really have it off by default, try going to preferences/ general and under hardware acceleration turn both to never. The software may be slower this way but much more stable. Unless you have a very recent or specific system this can cause frequent crashing. I was having the same experience. This may be the number one cause of multiple crashing in my experience.
I have been complaining as much as anyone on here about the newest version of Capture one Pro. I have gotten it to work reasonably well and have come to appreciate it's benefits. Still I am using version 6 on my laptop for tethering which is rock solid and does not have as stringent hardware requirements, then I bring the sessions over to my MacPro with version 7 and open and process. When I get newer hardware, I won't have to do this.
There have been some real improvements in the image processing, but Version 6 is still more stable.0 -
I have some newer hardware and have also experienced immediate multiple crashes... (solid state MBP and latest iMac), both w/quad core & 16 gigs, running OS10.8.3. Both have unexpectedly crashed, and then cannot relaunch the software without it quitting as soon as it opens. Have tried re-installing Capture One w/latest version, and won't launch without crashing. So both machines disabled. No response from C1. Switching to Lightroom for tethered work! 0 -

Can I have your support case number, please?0 -
It's been like that since introduction v7. Crashes and crashes. It's pointless to send error reports, OSX versions etc. The quality of this software is like 1/10. I love the quality of images it renders, so I still struggle to use it, but guys: DO SOMETHING SERIOUS! 0 -
It seems only the people who experience bad/strange behaviour post here to vent.
What not many people complaining about crashes do, is mention how their system is sized. This isn't meant to sound pretentious or condescending, but sizing is of utmost importance for these kind of high performance systems.
I'm not experiencing any of the problems mentioned here, either by the OP or the above poster. I'm running on both a Mac Pro and a macbook pro. The mac pro is sized generously, 6-core, 48 Gb memory, SSD for system drive, pictures on RAID0. This never crashes. The macbook needs a bit more care, while still dual core (i5), 16 Gb and SSD, sometimes i need to let the system complete its tasks before continue to edit etc. Crashes only once in a while (much less than once a month). I do need to say i hardly shoot tethered with CO.
By the way, i'm also using CO7 in conjunction with MP and for me it's working fine. Going from MP to CO7 takes some time (there's actually a warning saying that) and indeed the meta data sync takes quite a while, but if i let my system finish before i start editing, no crashes.
I hope this sheds some light on how it could work as well.
One thing i do agree with though, is the fact that a software system shouldn't crash when it runs slow or out of resources. It should just run slow then. I am not sure how OSX plays a role here.0 -

That sounds like a bad session file to me, maybe something more.
You can start by launching the program while holding down the option key which will force it to open without loading a session. From here you can make a new session and see if your results improve.
It is always a good idea to work in a new session created in your latest version of the software.
Let us know if that works...0 -
System specs and case-by-case specifics aside, OP, if you shared your crash log (the "send to apple" one), we may be able to help out specifically and see where and why it's crashing. 0
