Still confused about adjustments & crop
I understand copy and apply. What I don't understand (after using 4.0 for several hours now) is what exactly is getting copied and applied. In the adjustments panel, if I have an image highlighted and click on copy, I would suspect that whatever is checked off in the adjustments panel is what is getting copied in order to apply to several other images. But it seems like there are things not selected (rotate, for example) that get applied to the other images, even though it was not selected in the copy sequence. Can anyone explain how this works? Hate to keep referring to 3.7, but it was so easy to utilize in 3.7. Now it seems not so straight forward.
Also with the crop tool. In 3.7 I had an 8x10 aspect ratio and when I cropped I had an 8x10 crop to work with. Now it appears that the 8x10 aspect ratio does not give an 8x10 size, just the aspect ratio. Also does not seem possible to move the crop window around in the image after doing a slight rotate. Again, in 3.7 after I rotated the image a few degrees, i could then grab the crop window and move it around the image and place it where I wanted it. Anybody figure that one out? Thanks.

Wouldn't you know that as soon as I post a question, I stumble upon part of the answer. What confused me was with an image selected, and going to the adjustment panel, there were already tools selected. I assumed by selecting the tools you want to copy and then clicking copy, those would be the adjustments that would be copied and made on other images. But instead, when clicking on copy you are copying every adjustment that was made on an image. Makes sense. But then you have to go back through and de-select any adjustments that you don't want to apply after clicking on copy. So if you don't want to apply the rotate, you have to de-select it.
I kind of like the old way where you set a default of what tools and adjustments to copy and that is what gets applied. Is that possible in 4.0?0 -

A user's knowledge (of previous version) seems not always helpful. It can limit you in understanding new concepts or implementations. 😂
CO4's Adjustment tab, with the checklist, is best to be compared to the Apply All Settings in the Toolbar of CO3.7.x PRO (not available in LE).
If you try it in a structured one-to-one fashion between 2 images, it quickly becomes very straightforward. For example:
You select image A which has some adjustments applied. On the Adjustment tab you select Copy. ALL adjustments are copied to memory. Next, select image B. On the Adjustment tab you deselect certain adjustments that you do not want to apply to B. Click the Apply button. You might go to image C, change the check in the list, and Apply. A different set of adjustments from A will be applied to C, compared to those applied to B, all according to the checks in the list.[quote="updeinva" wrote:

Yes, after a slight rotate, I first (attempt to) change the size of crop. Now I am able to move the crop. Small bug in the interface.0 -
In the Apply Settings of 3.7 Pro, there is a list of default settings. You pick which adjustments you want to apply whenever you copy. For me, I am primarily working with exposure, color balance and levels, so I can select those items in the Apply Settings and be done with it. Whenever I copy and apply adjustments I know I am only copying and applying those items, nothing else. I like that system and would like to have that option in 4.0.
In 4.0 it seems to me you have to deselect additional adjustment tools with each copy and apply, something that can slow down the workflow. Which gets back to my original question: is there a way to default set which adjustment tools are copied, regardless of whether those tools where used or whether additional tools were used?0 -
Overall, I agree that the function in 3.7 was much faster, easier and simplified. Two clicks and I was done. I just selected what I wanted to apply [like contrast and saturation] and applied it to the images I had selected. Now I have to click, select, check off, click new image, go back and check off, copy, apply and on. That's a lot of clicking. I could just adjust the new image in that time.
I think the point everyone is trying to make is this: We all learned the previous work flow. The new work flow has additional steps and in some cases, a lot more additional steps, for the same outcome. That means more time added to my work flow.
What was two clicks is now like eight. Multiply that times 800 images on a given day, and you might have 6400 additional clicks in the new workflow.
I think this is a case of the - "if it's not broke, don't fix it" scenario. I am happy that P1 created new and additional features. However, taking exisiting features and making them much more complex and time consuming with the same intended outcome is bizarre to me.0 -
In 3.7 I usually figured on taking about an hour to get through about 200 images. I spent about 3 hours today just getting through 250 images with 4.0. Granted some of that was still trying to figure out workflow in 4.0 (yes, still trying to figure it out after days and even months with the betas), but still I cannot understand why or where I am spending all that extra time. All I know is that it is not a good sign. I can tell that I am clicking around between and within panels a lot more than I used to. Other than that I'm not sure, but something is definitely slowing me down in 4.0. 0
