Noisy Images from Capture One 5(Compared to 3.7)
Hello to all ! My first post here. 😊
My camera is Canon 30D .From Capture One 3.7, I'm now trying Capture One 5.1.1.
The developed jpeg images I'm getting have a lot of noise(grain).
I shoot RAW+jpeg, and the developed jpeg images from 5.1.1 are much noisier than the original(from camera) jpeg files.
What am I doing wrong?
Settings that I'm using :
For sharpening, I tried no sharpening, soft image sharpening, Version 3.7 soft and standard look.
ICC profile: Canon 30-D Generic
sGRB(output)
Curve: film standard
Noise reduction: luminance noise reduction and color noise reduction applied( also tried default)
Thanks,
Jimmy

Jimmy,
Capture One PRO Processed JPEG = Apple
Canon 30D generate JPEG = Orange
No one knows the inner workings of your 30D files better than Canon (not even Phase One 😉 ) so I would hope that your Canon could do a great job generating JPEG files. The benefit of shooting RAW and then going to JPEG is that you have complete control over the development of that JPEG, which my include putting a little more work into minimizing the Noise at the benefit of other image aspects. If you create a support case and provide the RAW, Camera JPEG and an example of the JPEG's you're getting from 5.1.1 we'd be happy to take a look. There is always room for improvement and if we can, we'll get you to a better place than you were with 3.7.0 -
How are you able to even use 3.7, when the 3-series converters have been
classified as trial only and, ultimately, non-functional?
Regarding your noise issues, I do not see this problem at all. My 5.1.1 raw
conversions look fantastic, even when using very small amounts of NR.
I've made comparison conversions with 5.1.1 and DPP and MUCH prefer
the CO results.

Drew,
Thanks for replying.
After spending some more time with 5.1.1, I am now getting the same "clean" 😊developed jpeg images that I'm used to with 3.7. 😊
In my case, I have to choose "no sharpening" setting in 5.1.1 in order to get similar developed jpeg images with 3.7 set at " standard look" .
The more I use 5.1.1,the more I like it 😊
With regards to creating a support case, I want to take this opportunity to thank and praise the Phase One support team for the quick ,efficient and generous manner the way they handled my support case regarding the " 3.7 key has expired problem".
More power to you and the Capture One team !!

Rob,
Thanks for responding.
I used 5.1.1 on some of my old RAW files to compare with my previous 3.7 conversions of the same old RAW files.
Anyway, my problem is solved .In my case ,it's a matter of selecting the proper(for me:-)) sharpening settings .
See my reply to Drew.
I've been using Capture One since my 300D (original Rebel) days.Updated to CO LE when I bought my 30D. I have never tried(yet 😊) other RAW conversionsoftwares .No need for that since CO works for me. I love its efficient workflow.
Regards,
Jimmy0
