Hmmmmm.... I have looked at all the tutorials, videos and documentation and still can't figure out how to view my files remotely on my Windows machine with C1 7. All the info I can find pertains to the Ipad and MAC products of which I own none of and more importantly I plan on never getting.

I'm not sure what the user base is for C1 but if 90% of world uses Windows, I assume that the majority of C1 users are windows based. I have an Android tablet and from the stats that I have read, so do the majority of people. Are there any plans for create an Android App for C1?

Presently, I would be content just to use a Windows browser to see my files remotely, but for some reason, either my fault or lack of detailed setup information, I can't set it up.

If someone could please provide me and everyone else a detailed procedure as how to setup a C1 so that files can be setup and viewed remotely, it would be great.

    Thanks in advance.

I think you made a proper setup but the key might be what is in your browser's error message. Do you mind sharing?

Also, try a different browser, for example on the Win 8 machine you run CO7.

    Hi Paul,

I suspect that you may find that in the Photoprocessing world (and graphics in general) the relative market share between Windows and Mac is almost inverted. There was a time when it was about 100% Mac. Microsoft came back into the fray quite strongly perhaps 10 years ago or around there when the Windows world moved to a more powerful set of processors before Apple headed the same way and stemmed the tide.

It would be interesting to know what the number really are. I would guess that most studios will ba using Mac and iPads and the studio scenario is the obvious target market for tethered and Capture Pilot type functionality. Also the prime revenue producers to justify the development. I would guess that not many amateurs would have a regular need for tethered shooting that would justify choosing one application over another.

You have reminded me that I have been intending to experiment with Capture Pilot but would need to borrow some tablets to compare.

I have an Android phone that seems unable to run Google's Chrome browser successfully, was marginal with Opera in some aspects and not at all impressive with Firefox. On the other hand my web site has some features which don't work well with Dolphin either.

The story is much the same on windows. Internet Explorer (latest version) is not very stable on my 6 months old Win 7 notebook. Firefox seems a little better with better recovery when it goes wrong. A friend who has decades of experience and develops web sites tells me he is in a perpetual battle to create systems that perform as intended on all browsers and is constantly revising his preferred browser advice to clients as products (browsers, the development tools he uses and operating systems, inter alia) "progress".

I recently found that I could get the Official Windows Office 365 Outlook app to run on my Android phone. It seems to just loop around the connection setup process. It works in a limited way using a browser but an integrated apporach seems prefereable. So I have obtained a Windows Phone (8 not 7). There are you might expect Outlook seems to work, though not as transparently in some things as you might expect. It might be interesting to see of Capture Pilot can be persuaded to run on both phones. Not so much for practical use as much as a proof of connectivity.

A quick test suggests that in my insallation the Internet Security Package/Firewall settings are interfering with access to the Capture Pilot server even on the same machine. Finally it looks like I need to do something about the Security software package that came as a 'trial' with the machine since now it is outside the trial period it still seems to function but cannot be managed so far as I can tell.

More checking required ..... maybe later.

    So - after some experiments.

My challenge was a firewall issue. I have deleted the embedded Third Party software that after a free trial, left me with no controls at all in the absence of a subscription.

Thereafter starting up C1 Capture Pilot provoked a message from Win7 about Firewall restrictions and allowed me to reset the values for C Pilot after which it became usable as expected.

Bear in mind that as far as I can tell, you only get the control part of the functionality with an iOS device. The browser solution allows colour tag and star rating only.

Also you are restricted to the specified folder. I could not see a drill down option for example. I did not expect one but wondered if sub folders might automatically be available.

IE on the Windows phone seemed to work well enough but the Pilot server became unavailable frequently. I thought that might be due to a very low battery on the phone but I saw the same situation on my Android phone using both the LG default 'Internet' browser and the Dolphin browser. Both of these seemed to work as expected though each with a slightly different positioning for the rating/colour overlaid control.

Re-connecting to the pilot server - which is still running - was not a problem other than the inconvenience of having to do so. I assume there is some sort of short "inactivity time out" setting somewhere that needs further investigation

    HTH.

I'm interested to hear what experiences you have as and when you get around to looking at it again.

Update. Thanks to those that replied. I just tried to use my Android tablet and Window asked me if I wanted to Allow Capture One access through the Firewall. After that, it worked and I was able to see the files use Capture Pilot. Too bad there's no Android App to get the same features as the Apple people get.

    Thanks again.
