    Matt,
Almost all scanners worth their salt are programable and should work just fine for what you suggested.
Catalog studios use them all the time.

    Hi Drew,

Thanks so much for your response.

If I understand correctly I simply obtain a good Barcode Scanner, tether it (C1 will pick it up as an imaging device?) and then press the scanner button.

What I am not sure of is how the barcode info is received or imported into C1, and what my best workflow outcome should be.

I would happily send an email off to Catalog Studios but I cant seem to locate a website.

Anyway thanks again Drew, much appreciated.

    Matt

    No, not at all. 😭
A barcode scanner is not an imaging device and therefore will not "tether" to Capture One.
The Barcode scanner will be recognized by your computer and basically take the place of the Keyboard when scanning an item. A barcode is simply a language readable by a laser. As such, scanning a barcode will be the same as entering the exact keys on your keyboard.
So, the workflow would simple be to select an image, click in the specific Metadata field (or any text field) and then scan the barcode with the information you wish to "type" into that field.

    Thanks Drew!

Yes that is very simple! 🙄 I was totally overthinking it!

I see myself as Owen Wilson from the scene in Zoolander... "it's in the computer!"

    Thanks again

er.. A barcode scanner is only something which is installed between your keyboard and workstation. That way it doesn't matter if you enter the code by hand or using the scanner: you click in the field which needs the code to be entered to get the focus on it, next you scan your code. The only problem might be that after scan there's no automatic submit, so you need to click a button then
as for barcode scanner, i just know this resource, check it to see whether helps .

Oldish thread but doesn't seem to be a response from anyone that is actually using a scanner. We use a Honeywell MS9520 amongst others. It is a USB device plugged into a Mac Pro Tower and/or Macbook Pro's using Capture 6.4.5 (no driver or plug-ins necessary with OSX as far as I know). We use it to label the captures with 10 digit item ID numbers. Highlight the capture name field, scan bar code and the field is populated. I have worked at other studios that use scanners in the same manner. Time saver in a production environment.
