    dleepenn,

Clearing the Trash deletes a RAW file from the Session/Collection
When you remove the Session tab from Capture One, the Preview files will not be created in the Cache upon launch of the program.

In the Cache are the Thumbnails or Work files tagged .C1w which are only about 1 KB
If you want to save image setting adjustment data, these files must be archived.
If not, you can browse to the Cache, organize by Type and delete them all.
If you ever browse JPEGs, you will see that a proxy JPEG resides in the Cache as well.

    Regards,
    KC

Pardon me for being critical, but that was an excellent non-answer to a question I did not ask....

Hopefully, version 4 of C1Pro will have a more rational filing system instead of the archaic MSDOS style of filing system. Tho I do not use a macintosh, I've heard that it is done correctly on the Mac version of version 3 of the program.

The thumbnail file that is created by C1 in the cache directory AND the file that contains the information about the adjustments to the RAW file to be used during conversion SHOULD BE stored in a folder relative to the location of the Capture files so that archiving the RAWs will also archive the conversion information.

In terms of cleaning up the thousands of files that currently reside in my Cache area, I was hoping that using C1Pro to clean up the files would also clean up the associated thumbnail and info files that C1 creates in the cache. I'm sorry you did not understand my question.

There is no way to easily connect the RAW file to its associated C1w file that is located in cache since that filename is some artifically generated name from the image data and is not really human understandable.

I will be looking forward to seeing the Version 4 software in the hope that some of this messiness will be resolved with this software. I like most other things about the program BUT the way it files information.

    dleepenn,
    I understood your question completely.
I’ve answered this same question at least a dozen times between this Forum, Training and Support Cases.
Read carefully and I’ll make it as clear as I possibly can.

The only file types that reside in the Preview Cache are:
    • .C1w - Work files that are the Thumbnails
    • .C1p - Preview Files
    • Proxy JPEGs – for any JPEG images you’ve browsed in Capture One.

Your Question: If I empty the trashcan, does C1 also clean the preview cache area as well?Answer – Clearing the Trash deletes a RAW file from the Session/Collection
It is easy to see that what you really want to know is how to alleviate space and clean the Preview Cache from unneeded files, so I offer:
When you remove the Session tab from Capture One, the Preview files will not be created in the Cache upon launch of the program.
I did leave out some details though and apologize.
The cleaning of the Cache is set at the Preferences > Preview Cache tab
Several choices exist in setting how/when the cache is maintained in regards to Preview files.
Clean up the preview cache now… button is one way and it will inform you:
Note: All the preview files NOT currently associated with a capture will be deleted during this operation.
The Preview files are the ones that take up space on a drive location.
Depending on camera model, files can be 1MB – ~15 MB
Again, remove the Session tab, and these are not created upon launch.
If the 1 KB .C1w cache files bother you, then Archive or Delete.
It is rather easy to browse to Cache, organize by Date or Type, Select, Delete in a matter of seconds.
*Create a Shortcut directly to the Capture One PRO folder on Desktop so it is quick to get to all folders.
Once understood, Archiving is really straightforward.
And by the way, not everyone archives adjustment settings.
Some complete their Sessions, remove them, and delete the entire cache.
Yes, the image settings SHOULD BE stored in a folder relative to the location of the Capture files
With just a few clicks and a matter of seconds, the .C1w files can be archived along with the RAWs, or any other location You choose.
When I want to save these data files, I create an ImageAdjustments folder, just like the Mac ImageSettings folder.
Then it is very clear where my files are, and yes, it takes a few more seconds to create this folder.
The Default Location when you Save to Archive. is directly into the RAW session folder and both file types exist in the exact same location.

The names of these Work files is irrelevant because you don’t need to connect anything.
You simply place the files where they need to be, Restore from Archive, and the program locates them efficiently.

I do use both Mac and Windows versions.
I’ll never be convinced that just because Mac places these data files in their own folder, and they are named the same as the RAW is not superior and is really no big deal at all.
This Mac folder has to be archived and replaced to specific location when reloading a job same as Windows version.
The program found them just as efficiently no matter what the names are.
Mac creates 3 associated files for the RAWs, Windows creates 2

    Sincerely,
    K C
