Making virtual copies to output a color and B+W TIFF

Slowly getting back into using C1. Trying to avoid running back to Lightroom when I can't figure out how to do something quickly!!

I've processed out 38 selects from a shoot as colour TIFFS. I now need to give my client B+W versions of all those files, but of course I don't want to lose the settings/formula I used for the color version. In Lightroom I'd make a virtual copy of the file and make a B+W version of it. What's the similar process in C1 Pro 8?

    It's the same as LR. Create a b/w in a virtual copy. But you have 2 ways to start it.
    - you can activate the b/w workspace and use the b/w tools from there or
    - manually add the b/w tool tab to your standard tool tabs.
    Then select your images and create new or cloned variants from your images. One by one or all in one go. You choose it.
    All the tools you need are under the b/w tool tab, and there are some styles/presets in CO, too. The best way is to use the RAWs for that.

    The B+W menu is pretty self explanatory, it's finding out how to make the virtual copies I'm having problems figuring out.

    So do I select the files, that I've already done some work on (exposure/shadows/sharpening etc), and go Image > new variant or clone variant (F2 or F3) and then do my B+W version on that?
    What's the difference between and new and a clone variant?
    When I make a new (or cloned) variant, where does it reside? Is it a "virtual" file, as in Lightroom? If so, if I'm working in Sessions, where do I find it?
    When I made a new variant, it didn't seem to give it a distinct name, like adding _V1 to the file name, to show its a variant.

    Variants do not get individual names but can be stacked in a prioritised order if you wish. You can also keyword the variants - so perhaps add an identifying keyword fot B&W?

    New variant gives you the unedited original file.

    Clone variant gives you a copy of the current variant (you can have many variants of a file if you wish) with all edits in place and awaiting you next edit.

    The variants are edits all held in the the same "settings" file for a each image file. If you have used local area adjustments there will also be a file for the "mask" definitions.

    Using sessions the CaptureOne data will be held in sub folders the folder in which the original image file resides.

    Just an addition to Grant's post:

    There will be an additional file if you create an LCC, too.

    All these separate files (raw, adjustments, masks and LCC, but not the preview) can be packed into a single .eip file, which is actually a .zip. But I don't recommend it for daily work, because unpacking and packing slows down the system significantly.

    The thumbnail in your browser shows a number (1, 2, 3...) for the variants in the top right corner, if you have more than just one. And the 1st variant has a little icon in the top left corner to collapse all variants. Manual sorting is possible by simple drag-and-drop.

    The new or cloned variants can be created from 'Image' manu, keyboard shortcut (like you already do), or the pop-up menu when right-clicking the thumbnail in the browser bar.
