Do a search on the word 'linux' and you will have your answer.

You could have just said 'no' ...

As we all found out when we installed it, the Windows version of C1v4 uses the .NET Framework libraries. Given that .NET is Windows only, the Mac version presumably uses different libraries. This must represent a significant overhead for the Phase One team. Adding in a third version, with no doubt a different set of libraries again, is hardly likely to be in the art of the possible. True cross-platform programming of complex applications is not, as yet, a well-developed technology.

    David,

Of course you are perfectly right that 'no' is a good and proper answer for the CO/Linux question, but I just wanted to deviate from my everyday routine 😄
The term 'marketshare' comes to mind as well.
And maybe I liked to give a hint to the OP that using the forum search capabilities could provide for the information he was looking for.

What about now? I searched in the forum and in the knowledge database, but nothing new appeared.

As a MAC version exists, maybe a hope ...

Fall 2011 already.... While more & more users (including mac guys) are converting to Linux, Do phase1 consider a Linux version or not?
Bibble5 are the only one with an opened mind right now. I think that is about time for Phase1 to do something about. Otherwise, in the future I could see Adobe ahead of the game unfortunately.
    Please Phase1 Team, do something.

For a quote from Phase One you'd best ask them directly. From my point of view I do not share you optimism for Linux desktop penetration, to the contrary and in particular due to increasing popularity of Mac. But that can be different for different parts of the world.

I already asked them. But they don't seem to consider any linux version. This is why I went towards Bibble5pro went I dropped Windows.
Not only the linux community is growing fast, but I can see more & more photographers being linux users. I don't know about the Netherlands, but I can see this here in Canada.

Interesting. Here, among photographers I see a move from Windows to Mac towards a 25-75% (Win-Mac) ratio currently from a 50-50% ratio a few years back. Pros already used Mac, now enthusiasts switch to Mac as well. Linux is non-existent in that area. Outside the photo world, I have not met a Linux desktop user in the last 5 years except for a computer geek (which I am myself according to too many of my best friends 😁 ). In the Enterprise Linux servers are heavily used in Europe.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Heh!

I don't know a single photographer that's on Linux. Not one.

Another thing I noticed among the "Tux guys", is the reason of linux vs mac. The feedback I got is mostly based on the cost. It seems that if you need a specific machine, you can pick some top quality components of your choice & built your own system for a fraction of the price of a mac.

Hi Keith, you're right. I didn't hear about professional photographers on linux. (As a matter of fact, I don't hear them talking about computer stuff). Maybe they get free stuff or very good deals (sponsors or else), I don't know! However, the photographer enthusiasts & more particularly semi-pro (since they need bigger or more personalized machines) are counting the dimes. The budget for an expensive mac is not always there. And I understand them since I'm in this category too. So, yes indeed, in this latest category of photographers linux is a consideration.
Another (surprising) new thing I've been told lately, is the growing market of tablets. Personally I don't care, I'm not considering any (I'm not a toy person). But once again, I start seeing photographers w/ a tablet in their back-pack. Since there's a steep increase of Android tablets sales, some photographers are looking at linux differently.

    So long,

FWIW..I don't much care wether a photographer uses Mac or PC...I prefer PC's myself..... Adobe Photoshop and Capture One are the basis of our workflow, there are other raw converters my aquaintances use, but none use Linux....and I don't see it being an advantage over a fully supported OS that's only a couple of hundred bucks.....

I wouldn't place a value judgement on someone's OS...but I doubt there's much of a push for PhaseOne to develop on another platform...and I'm not sure Adobe would support Linux either.

Using Capture Pilot on a tablet/phone is a very neat application...and I have owned a netbook and iPad since they were introduced, but I think they're adjunctive to my workflow...not any thought of replacing my computers...they would have to become much more capable...

you probably mean more and more linux users are buying normal cameras, not vice versa 😂
