Capture One image upscaling methods
Im looking for any information on the upscale process used to resize images for processing. The limit is set at 250% what is the reason? for this. I wouldnt nomally go above this, but recently I had to output A0 prints from my 1dsII which is pushing it beyond its limits really.
Im looking for feedback and opinions and whether the CO process is felt to be better or otherwise than Adobe stepscaling or other packages on the market.
From my limited tests is seems CS at least as good as step scaling in Adobe CS.

A very keen magazine publisher recently noticed an issue with the Capture One Scaling Tool in version 3.7.3R&D testing gave the following advice:
Within a certain range....
When you are close to 100% or at or above 200% it looks fine
When scaling between 110 and 190 % it could be better
This should be fixed in Upgrade to version 4.0 later this year.
PhotoShop __uses a Bicubic intepolation
Genuine Fractals __uses Fractal Interpolation
Capture One PRO __uses Scaling
Each of these programs do a file increase in size a bit differently. Someone much wiser than I could likely give you an explanation of the differences.
We have tested and users have tested Capture One, the Photoshop method, and Genuine Fractals.
What is important is what you like... or ultimately, what your customers like.
Capture One does do an outstanding job. Of course the image quality OUT depends on the image quality IN, i.e. with our Digital Back files the results are excellent.
From what I've read it seems the True Consensus is that NONE of the methods for upsizing/increasing file data size is good.
If efficient workflow is most important, then use Capture One Scaling. If quality is important and you upsize often, it may be worth testing to determine results for yourself to help make the decision.

thanks for the information,. I went with CO upscaling for work I was doing for the National Review of Live Arts in Glasgow last week where I was shooting my 1ds2 on large groups and printing at A0, the output was very good indeed considering the lighting conditions, I did see a little postering, similar to that described on other posts, but overall the images were fine considering the magnification factor an the restrictions with the lighting I had to deal with. More importantly, the client was delighted..
I await version 4 like many others with baited breath
cheers
