    Thanks !! Very interesting !!
You can do it also with Affinity Photo, for instance, I just tried, and this is what I was looking for for a long time !!
But you have first to export your variants to an other file, otherwise PS or AP will import the non processed RAWs.

    Yes, that works.

Having a dedicated "Edit as Layers..." option within C1 would be much more convenient, though.

The approach of using PS's import function means one first has to explicitly export all required C1 images, make sure the right export profile is used, identify a good temporary export location, locate the export location in PS, and then go through the required steps in PS.

For compositing work, or any other work that requires to have multiple images available in layers, it was extremely efficient to use LR's built-in "edit as layers" functionality.

You can make a feature suggestion to Phase One. They are really good at listening to customers and it matters how often they hear about a particular feature request.

It's not exactly made for this, but menu - 'Scripts' - 'Stitch in Photoshop' processes the selected images according to the selected recipe, opens them in PS, makes them layers, and groups them. Now just cancel the stitching dialog in PS, and you'll have your layers.

Alternatively, duplicate 'Stitch with Photoshop' in '/Applications/Capture\ One\ 11.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts', rename the new package to something like 'Layers in Photoshop', and remove the PS stitching parts from the scripts inside.

Thanks a lot; I was getting excited until I remembered that scripting is an option for the Macintosh version of C1 only. ☹️

I tried creating a droplet with Photoshop CS6 to nominate as a target when invoking "Edit With..." from C1, but had no luck opening and combining the files without getting spurious windows opening in PS. I tried a number of alternatives but all failed in one way or another.

At least, I noticed that "Edit With..." works with several images selected. With all images opened up in PS, it is only a couple of steps to create an image that contains them as layers. Alas, even that cannot be perfectly scripted in PS, as for some reason pressing the "Add Open Files" button in the "Load Layers" dialog is not recorded by the macro.

An alternative method might be to
    1 - export to TIFF's
2 - create a PSD with Smart Object Layers that refer to those TIFF's .
3 - do your Photoshop stuff on the layers
4 - 'update' the TIFF's by exporting them again with the same name at the same location
5 - Photoshop will update the 'Smart Layers", voilá

... or it might not work for you of course 😉
