Nikon D850 UNWANTED crop on NEF

This issue is not related to Mac or Windows software, i've already tried on both.
Brand new Nikon D850 allows for "FX-format photographs taken during movie recording". This is terrible as these photographs are not the same size ( 8256 x 4640 ) as a regular RAW ( 8256 x 5504 ).
And NOTHING in Capture One tells you that you are shooting cropped files.
This affects the RAW files and these can not be saved afterwards (as opposed to the crop mode shooting mode on a Canon dslr).
If you hit by mistake the photo-video toggle switch on the camera, Capture One DOES NOT inform you about the slightly cropped files you'll get from this moment.
There MUST be a way to know, when looking at Capture One one the computer that you've entered "Video recording" mode on the camera. This information should be temporarily displayed on every open window to let you know that something is happening.
I know some might say that you're supposed to notice that a slight part of the pictures are missing, but there are a lot of opportunities when you're not looking at the full picture after every shot : e-shop mass shooting / focus-stacking / multi-exposure...
How can I report this issue to the Capture One staff ?

Presumably at this time this is specific to the D850?
I can't quite see how this is something for which C1 should carry a cost of development.
Is there no way in the camera that you can lock out the option to change mode so you cannot make the error?

Yeah, I think a 'don't switch modes while tethered' FW update by Nikon would be the case.0 -
Yes, you’re right it has to be specific to the D850 as I assume it is the only dslr that has this « shoot photo when in video-mode » thing.
Because the resolution of the files aren’t the same as a photograph shot in « photo mode », it could lead to some troubles.
As C1 advertises as a professional software, I consider that it should be made for people who use it to work. And amongst all the working photographers, everyone ain’t a good one... As a professional software, it should make everything possible to offer an efficient experience and the best support to get the job done.
I fully trust myself but when working with assistants you don’t perfectly know or multiple photographers at the same time, one might make that mistake and not notice it until the end of the day. I know this is not supposed to be C1’s problem, but I’d like to help me not face that situation.
Id be happy not to have to put an ugly piece of tape on the camera switch.
I think this can’t be solved by a Nikon s firmware update as it is a physical switch on the camera (little arrow pointing either to a photo or video mode). But Gusferlizi, youre right, I’d be glad to have this message displayed on the screen of C1 if the mode is changed on the D850.0 -
I had a quick look as the D850 user guide and saw mention of being able to program many of the switches to do stuff but nothing that specifically suggested one could disable a function related to other features in play.
That's not to say it is not possible - just that if it is (as part of some brain twisting lateral thought process) it may not be very evident and possibly could create other compromises.

Yes, it can’t be fixed as it is supposed to be a « feature » (as one can say « it’s not a bug, it’s a feature ».
But maybe C1 could explicitely mention when it is used, something like a warning label (as on Canon cameras that use a « ! » in the viewfinder when something unusual is set up like a monochrome picture style or else).

I would imagine that the camera needs to provide a feed of data or set a status (same thing expressed slightly differently) before another application can begin to identify something it needs to warn about. This is the sort of case where the data would need to be quite specific as well. A generic message used for several notifications would not be much help.
So the question is whether or not Nikon provides anything that can be picked up by a program interacting with their code.0 -

Read page 74 in your D850 User Guide. I don't see way how C1 can distinguish between "I know my settings, I know what size of picture I'm shooting" and "I don't know how my camera behaves and I need a warning".0 -
I think the situation is a little different:
The selection movie / still on the D850 is also accessible via software and then overwrites the setting in the camera. With Camera Control Pro 2 you can set movie / still in live mode and decide on RAW size. Ignoring compression and sticking to 12 bit you end up with 6 different RAW formats and all of these can be imported into CO10 (and 11) and displayed correctly. However if you start tethering with CO10 (and 11) the outcome is rather erratic unless you stick to still mode and RAW L.

It is also possible to set-up the D850 in a way that images are also stored on either card a/o on the computer. It would be great if CO would also support this feature (submitted).
