Losing Settings/Cos files...

If you accidently hit the Cmd+R combination with all images selected, you could have cleared all adjustments. It is correct that the adjustments are in the cos files.
Another cause could be that you renamed the image files with another application than Capture One. As a result, the image file name does not match with the cos file name, hence the adjustments are lost.
Are the cos files in a Settings50 folder, or Settings45 or Settings folder?

    Paul,

The cos files are in a Settings50 folder.

Once "reset" to zero is there a way to reapply the settings? I would guess not.

    For clarity, the "rules are"
1--if you have to rename AFTER ADJUSMENTS ARE MADE be sure and do it in Capture One
2--do not move the folder from the parent folder (??)
3--do NOT accidentally hit Command r!
Are there any other rules that will keep me safe? It's no fun having to repeat the work, especially after the client already saw the first versions.......

    thx for your help

Ed, I think that you get the concept right with your baseline rules. Some additions.

Once you open an image folder with CO6, it creates a CaptureOne subfolder in it with settings in one, and previews in the other. The previews will be regenerated once lost, the settings files are your work with adjustments. The linking is by file name, hence keep them together and don't rename outside CO.
The same is true for moving and deleting images. When you do that from CO6, it takes care of the sidecar files as well.

To improve your experience of file and folder handling, you can pack the image file and settings file into a single EIP pack, either manual or automatically during import or later from the File menu. This makes backing up the image plus adjustments easier as well, but restricts you to CO to open it again.

There are also some other factors to look into. If you are coming back to this information weeks/months later, I assume you are backing up somehow? If that is the case, perhaps these files are not backed up properly or migrated with the rest of the data.
