Xmp not saving/writing adjustments.

    Hi there.

So there are two things to be aware of here.

First - Capture One does not save adjustments the same way lightroom/aperture does. Image adjustments are not stored in xmp sidecar files, but rather in proprietary adjustment files. If you look at your C1 session folders, you'll see a folder named "CaptureOne" - inside that folder there are preview files, settings files and proxy files. Thats where your adjustments are stored.

This is important to understand because if you copy individual files from one location to another, and don't bring the rest of the Capture One session files along, your adjustments will be lost. It also means that other RAW editing programs cannot (and never have been able to) see adjustments made by CaptureOne. So opening your raw images in bridge (if they haven't been processed as TIF/PSD/JPG files) they will look as they did straight out of camera.

Second - By default Capture One does not save xmp/sidecar files at all. This is still relevant because the sidecar files will contain metadata such as keyboarding, copyright info, location data etc. If your workflow involves any software other than CaptureOne or Media Pro and you need the keywording data available then you'll want to turn this option on.

    Take a look:

Aha! It seems I had the “Prefer embedded XMP over embedded IPTC†setting checked. I unchecked it and my problem seems to be gone now 😊 Thank goodness! THANK YOU. 😜

Man, hate to bring this up again, but my problem as described, has returned. Preferences are as instructed. I just opened a catalogue from last week and at least half of the images have lost all of their adjustments. I'm using the latest version of C1.

My preview image size is 2560 px. Would it do any good if I turned this down a notch or two? Just guessing, of course...

This thread is confusing because the OP is talking about 'adjustments' in relation to XMP. It was already stated that adjustments are not stored in the XMP file, except for metadata.

So, if you lost adjustments (Exposure, White Balance of that sort), forget about XMP because it has nothing to do with it. You'd better set the XMP sync to None unless you exchange Metadata with another program.

You have to Verify the consistency of your catalog from the File menu for a start.

I've been dealing with this issue for a long while. It is *so* frustrating. I've taken to opening set of photos several times before doing any real editing work, as I know once it does whatever it is that screws things up, it seems to retain settings afterwards.

I've gone through the motions with a support case on this and didn't really get anywhere, as it's an ambiguous issue that happens sometimes and not others. I've noted that, even though it's the adjustments affected. which are stored in separate files, it only happens when full XMP sync is on (which I prefer to have on). Every incremental update gives me hope that the problem might be fixed, but it never is.

I use several Canon bodies and oddly find that my 7D Mark II files are most likely to be affected. Often if I apply a star rating, it will be deleted from the file almost immediately after I apply it.
