Can original RAW files be removed from Catalog?

NEW USER HERE! I photographed someone the other day and I thought I had set up a Session. Apparently, I didn't and used a Catalog instead. Now it appears that all my RAW files are missing or I suspect they are all embedded in the Catalog since it is so large. While they may be fine in there, just to satisfy my desire to have the lot of them where I can see them, is it possible to remove them from the catalog?

Also, how do "you" use catalogs vs sessions in your workflow?

  I think I just answered part one of my question. I was able to select all the images and drag them from the CO browser directly to my desktop.

  The regular way to get images stored inside the catalog into a folder you can access (and work upon from a session): File menu > Export > Originals.
  
  This allows you to export any adjustments you made. Adjustments are stored into a side car file for each image, in a sub folder to the image folder.
