    John,

Do your zooming and panning in the crop tool. i.e. with the crop tool active.

When the screen shows what you want to see put the crop cursor cross in a corner and and drag to the opposite corner.

If you wish to use a standard ratio select that first.

If your crop will not be constrained to a specific ratio make sure you set unconstrained first. Or draw what you have in place and then right click to access the crop tool settings and change the type, etc., as required.

    HTH.

Here's the thing, John. Choose a aspect ratio, (or make one of your own) that correlates to your output format. Crop your image to aspect ratio, then use zoom for the final crop.

One suggestion; try to keep your crop "in camera". Frame your subject in camera so there's minimal need to crop in post.

That's all very well, and it's often the advice of the "get it right in camera" school of thought. But not every image you take is best with a 3x2 aspect ratio. And for some subjects, like for instance a bird in flight, it is wise to not zoom in quite as close as you would like because it is very difficult to frame the moving bird exactly right - better to leave a bit of a margin and refine the crop more exactly in the computer later.

Hello and Thank You All 😊 ! It's a little bit like Grant says in that you have to "remember" what you zoomed into, then go back to the full image and drag that crop window into the same place. But really, it's more like what Paul says - there is no way of simply doing that. But it's always fun playing around with it anyway 😊 ! Thank You All once again!

    Best Regards, John

There's no need to zoom out and there's a very simple way to do what you want. If you want to crop exactly to the zoomed portion of the image just draw a crop inside. If there's already a crop set just press and hold shift to draw a new crop rectangle inside the previous one. You can crop from corner to corner (as already suggested) or draw a rectangle inside the viewer and move the borders to match it. From 5 to 10 seconds work.
