C1 on old XP laptop
Hello all: The only laptop I have with FireWire is XP OS with 1.25G RAM, 60G HDD, a Compaq R3000 circa 2004.
Almost ALL new windows laptops have NO FW connectors! ☹️
I use this old PC, tethered near the camera, JUST to receive and view images, the selected shots are then passed to a big W7 WS for post processing by C1. I have P45+ and IQ180, both have similar issues.
My main WS is in another room.
Problem: The laptop is VERY slow to do anything in C1, even with NO other programs or minimum of services running. Upgrading RAM 1.25>>2.0 G may not help as RAM does not seem to be the limit. The HDD is about 50% free and is defragged. The Windows system cache is set to 4 GB on the HDD.
I am an experienced system admin and tech so (I hope) the obvious things have been tried!
Any advise and suggestions (besides to buy a MAC notebook!) are appreciated. 😄
Kind Regards,
Jon Paul

Quite a contrast between your camera backs and laptop. For these backs you need the latest & fastest laptop with an SSD. And even when Firewire is available on a Windows machine, it is in general not fast as on a Mac. So you gave the right advice yourself already. 😉 0 -
Hello Paul: Thanks for the note: I have a lot of other PCs but all are big WS. The other laptops are too small and lower specs. So sure, I do need a new laptop!
I am trying to put it off till a PC laptop appears with FW OR (even better) untill P1 makes a firmware upgrade for IQ180, when will NOT be in the forthcoming firmware update!
Kin Regards,
Jon0
